Even at more than twice the price, money no object..

I would still pick the FRS...
My friend came by yesterday with his new BMW Z4 which he just bought.
The 28i version with the 4 cylinder turbo with every option available including the M suspension package.. Nice looking car! Lots of Luxo features like heated steering wheel, 8 spd auto, M package, etc..
So I took it for a spin.. Didn't take but 20 feet of driving to realize its not for me.. It felt heavy and slow in its "feel" thru the steering wheel. Lacking the crisp response I'm now used to with the twins.. Brakes were grabby and non linear.
It's quick though! You get a slight pause when you nail it and then it takes off like a small V8 ! Would dust me off the line for sure.. But that where the fun ends for the Z4.. It's nice and all.. More comfy and civilized for sure.. And the hardtop convert is awesome indeed.. But for pure driving fun, driver feedback and best entry price... The FRS is the one to have!
I congratulated him and sent him on his way... I then just smiled to myself realizing what a fun toy I have... My smile grew bigger when I realized how much money I saved while having more fun.. Good stuff!
Happy holidays to you all!

Why are 50% of the posts on this forum a giant circle jerk about how brilliant we all are for buying the same car?

I would much rather see people talking about how great the car is, than complaining.

Then you can read the other 50% where everyone is complaining about the "cricket problems", rattles or how this car lacks power if that makes you happy.

I was at the track during the summer and came across a Z4 3.0si. Our cars and driving skills were so evenly matched, it was a lot of fun running together. I talked to him afterwards and told him I thought we were pretty evenly matched. He said he couldn't believe how fast I was flying through the corners, but said he could make up some speed in the straights. That seemed about right from what I could see. They seem like fun cars and he seemed to be having a great time.

You can see him in this picture:

Wow why are you so angry? I love hearing posts about how much people are enjoying their cars. What are you expecting on an FR-S forum, people who hate their cars?

NWFRS 11-29-2013 01:36 PM

Hahahahaha! Seriously! It's a love-hate relationship with these cars.

They look so great and handle so well that it's really hard to NOT compare them to more expensive cars. At the same time I do feel a little butt-hurt when my friends point out the car's flaws.

I don't care. I waited a long time for someone to build a fun innexpensive coupe. Hopefully they will cost less to maintain than the more expensive cars we are always comparing them to. :-)

Thanks for the laugh while I work and everyone else I know is out shopping.

What does one expect to see on an online car forum? Love, complaints, and help with repairs.

Hanni_0176 11-29-2013 02:00 PM

Most of the circle jerk is more than likely coming from new(er) owners. Nothing wrong with that. This car isn't getting rave reviews from enthusiasts magazines/blogs/columns for nothing. While I'm not the type of person to post a new thread about how amazing the car is (which I didn't do when I first got my car), to each his own. The car is awesome... no need to rag on anyone for posting about it.

I hope you have your flame suit ready...

I complement the OP. I was pretty well postured to buy a new Cayman when I opted for the FR-S instead. I have never regretted my decision.

I will hate on BMW. They are now building cars more suitable for straight line performance and highway cruising than they are for twisty roads. The lightest car in their line-up now weighs over 3000LB. On top of that, they are so expensive to repair that you can't afford to own one out of warranty.

I talked my son into buying a FR-S. If he had bought a BMW I would have disowned him. Well, maybe not disowned him but I would not have worked on the damn thing.

Buy a BMW if you are more concerned about your status than driving enjoyment!

Right on. Own any german car is like you pay twice. Pay one to drive it home and pay thousands more to maintain in the long run.

I traded in a BMW for th FR-S. The BMW was overweight and too expensive too maintain. I always wanted a BMW. Unfortunately, I wanted the BMW from decades ago, not the bloated luxury car it is today. Since I don't want to mess with an antique, Asian sports car it is.
