Even at more than twice the price, money no object..
I would still pick the FRS...
My friend came by yesterday with his new BMW Z4 which he just bought. The 28i version with the 4 cylinder turbo with every option available including the M suspension package.. Nice looking car! Lots of Luxo features like heated steering wheel, 8 spd auto, M package, etc.. So I took it for a spin.. Didn't take but 20 feet of driving to realize its not for me.. It felt heavy and slow in its "feel" thru the steering wheel. Lacking the crisp response I'm now used to with the twins.. Brakes were grabby and non linear. It's quick though! You get a slight pause when you nail it and then it takes off like a small V8 ! Would dust me off the line for sure.. But that where the fun ends for the Z4.. It's nice and all.. More comfy and civilized for sure.. And the hardtop convert is awesome indeed.. But for pure driving fun, driver feedback and best entry price... The FRS is the one to have! I congratulated him and sent him on his way... I then just smiled to myself realizing what a fun toy I have... My smile grew bigger when I realized how much money I saved while having more fun.. Good stuff! Happy holidays to you all! |
Why are 50% of the posts on this forum a giant circle jerk about how brilliant we all are for buying the same car?

I would much rather see people talking about how great the car is, than complaining. |

Hahahahaha! Seriously! It's a love-hate relationship with these cars.
They look so great and handle so well that it's really hard to NOT compare them to more expensive cars. At the same time I do feel a little butt-hurt when my friends point out the car's flaws. I don't care. I waited a long time for someone to build a fun innexpensive coupe. Hopefully they will cost less to maintain than the more expensive cars we are always comparing them to. :-) |

What does one expect to see on an online car forum? Love, complaints, and help with repairs.

Most of the circle jerk is more than likely coming from new(er) owners. Nothing wrong with that. This car isn't getting rave reviews from enthusiasts magazines/blogs/columns for nothing. While I'm not the type of person to post a new thread about how amazing the car is (which I didn't do when I first got my car), to each his own. The car is awesome... no need to rag on anyone for posting about it.

I complement the OP. I was pretty well postured to buy a new Cayman when I opted for the FR-S instead. I have never regretted my decision.

I talked my son into buying a FR-S. If he had bought a BMW I would have disowned him. Well, maybe not disowned him but I would not have worked on the damn thing. Buy a BMW if you are more concerned about your status than driving enjoyment! |
