Zippys BRZ sound system(Lots o' Photos)
Hi all,
I went to Columbus Car Audio to have this install done. It was my first install using a DSP and I wanted a pro to do it so I could learn. Here's what went in:
Here is a before and after of the doors getting their sound deadener. I had gotten the following sound deadener installed throughout: hushmat bulk kit 30 12”x23” sheets 2 hustmat silence megabond 1/8” and a 2 pack of 8” hushmat wave breakers (These went right behind the factory location for the 6 1/2” mid bass) I’m going to start off with the head unit. The bracket was custom built to flush mount the bottom lip of the 8500 with the trim panel surrounding. The 30 pin apple adapter is in the glove box and the factory USB location works. http://99.26.231.33/images/Picture%20022.jpg Here’s a close up of the IR repeater added for the Pure i-20 controller. It’s between the vent controls. http://99.26.231.33/images/Picture%20024.jpg And on to the doors. http://99.26.231.33/images/IMG_1326.jpg Here’s the wave breaker mat mounted behind the 6 1/2” door mid base. http://99.26.231.33/images/PC090245.JPG If you are going to sound deaden, then go all out. http://99.26.231.33/images/PC120253.JPG http://99.26.231.33/images/PC120254.JPG http://99.26.231.33/images/PC120255.JPG http://99.26.231.33/images/PC120256.JPG Here’s where the Mille 3” and tweets went in. http://99.26.231.33/images/IMG_1317.jpg Of course more sound deadener was used.http://99.26.231.33/images/IMG_1334.jpg More than a little custom fabrication was done. Here are the Mille 3” mounts. http://99.26.231.33/images/IMG_1333.jpg Here’s the Mille tweeters custom mount bracket. http://99.26.231.33/images/IMG_1335.jpg http://99.26.231.33/images/IMG_1336.jpg http://99.26.231.33/images/IMG_1337.jpg http://99.26.231.33/images/IMG_1338.jpg The foam surrounding the speakers was to seal up the speakers to the factory grills. Here’s a pic of the custom bracket for the rear voce 3.0. http://99.26.231.33/images/IMG_1350.jpg http://99.26.231.33/images/Picture%20001.jpg Did I mention sound deadener? :-) The cavity behind the 3” rear fill was also filled with it. Time to cover the amp rack and sub bottom mount. http://99.26.231.33/images/Picture%20015.jpg http://99.26.231.33/images/Picture%20016.jpg http://99.26.231.33/images/Picture%20018.jpg http://99.26.231.33/images/Picture%20019.jpg You can literally pick up the back end of the car holding it by the amp rack. Here it is all wired up.http://99.26.231.33/images/Picture%20020.jpg Now on to the Sub box. http://99.26.231.33/images/Picture%20007.jpg The sound fill material used in the box was incredibly quiet. You could hear a difference with your head in there. http://99.26.231.33/images/Picture%20008.jpg http://99.26.231.33/images/Picture%20009.jpg Here’s the wall that was built for the floating sub box mount. The front of the sub box had leather glued to it to provide a flush seal and some grip. The back bottom of the sub is held in place by the amp rack. The top back of the sub is anchored to the rear deck with two brackets. Since no part of the sub box is touching the floor of the trunk, it’s a floating mount. http://99.26.231.33/images/Picture%20021.jpg Here’s the trim piece added to show off the sub a little more. http://99.26.231.33/images/Picture%20025.jpg Here a detail photo of blending the sub wall in to the factory panels to make it look like it belonged there all the time. http://99.26.231.33/images/Picture%20026.jpg Here’s where the Audison Voce 1.1 tweeters fit in to the rear panel. http://99.26.231.33/images/Picture%20032.jpg Here’s the assembly of the passive crossover mounts. http://99.26.231.33/images/Picture%20033-1.jpg http://99.26.231.33/images/Picture%20034-1.jpg Here’s how they look mounted on the sides of the floating Sub box in the finished trunk, without and with coverings. http://99.26.231.33/images/IMG_0090.JPG http://99.26.231.33/images/IMG_0091.JPG That concludes the photos. I will edit this post and add a video of the last bit not mentioned. There's a part of this install that's best seen in video. |

Thanks for the comments all.
I just got my replacement head unit in today. A retina display iPad mini. I'll be figuring out how I want to set it up. It's not going in till Arc Audio comes out with the controller module for the PS8. Since that is what will be taking up my free time, I may as well just explain what the video I was going to add is. I have an Apple TV 3 under the passenger seat. It connects up to my current 30 pin iPad(3rd gen) for internet access via wifi mobile hotspot setting. It only needs that to set it's time initially. After that any other apple device on the network can airplay to my Pioneer through the apple TV. To get to the Apple TV, you just select apps and it takes you to the HMDI input that the Apple TV is on. If I want to use apps mode for apps I go to settings-general-sleep on my Apple TV. After the Apple TV goes to sleep I can go to apps from the home screen on the Pioneer and I'm in the apps on my iPad. If I want to go back. I click the remote menu button waking up the Apple TV and it will kick me out of the apps. After that when I select apps, I'm back in Apple TV. |
that is some clean work man!
