Any resolution to the window not closing all the way in winter?
 

It has been an uneventful summer wit the FRS and now the ice and snow is back.

Last year I discovered that in certain winter conditions, the door window would not return to the raised position after opening or closing the door. The occurrence was not directly attributable to snow or ice and it happens on a random intermittent basis.

I missed it once last year and ended up with a car full of snow.

Winter is back and so is the problem.

I have not been on the forum a lot since last winter and a quick search just find the old threads. Anyone know if the dealers have addressed this in any novel way? My particular dealer was making use of the "Never hear of that" tool to see if the problem (me) went away.

I cold pull the wire that detects that the door is open and disable the entire up-down jig that the door does, but that will also disable the interior light and as we all know, winter brings a surplus of dark. Already verified that the window does not need to go down for the door to open. Its a pressure release courtesy so your ears don't pop.

When your car warms up reset the window(s). Do this by clicking and holding the window(s) scroll all the way down till you hear a click, then all the way up till you hear a click. Additionally i disabled my auto roll down function during winter to avoid the issue entirely. Its a 5 min, fix, I don't have the link to it here but it is somewhere on the forum, I posted about the issue a while back. Hope that helps

The dome lights opens up when you remote unlock and and you remove the key from the ignition, it's not a problem really to disable the door buttons.

Also in regards to disabling the option, you wont have to disconnect any wires. All I did was cover a contact connector with electrical tape. Be careful though, I did some research on auto up down windows and found that it is not primarily a design feature to release air so your ears don't pop. I found that it is so that the first point of contact when closing the door is the actual door its self and not the glass. If you disable this feature you will notice that the first contact point is the glass which will put extra strain on the glass. I ended up doing it because i'm careful with my doors and it was worth the gain, but just be warned and play with the door a few times to see the difference and where the contact point is.

I know all too well the routine for re-setting the windows. In winter its a regular occupation. I was hoping that perhaps Toyota had found a solution that would help. Does not appear to be the case.

Interesting about the window jib being to avoid first contact. Are they saving the glass or the seal I wonder?

What I always find ironic about this flaw is that it defaults to a lowered position. You would think that by having lowered itself it would know that it was free to go back up? Why not just current limit the window so that it did not lower in cold weather when it detected resistance?
