Video console help needed

My PS 2 just died and I'm at a loss what to replace it with. I recall a few years back looking at the PS 3 and finding out I needed to interface it with my computer and do something which sounded like a foreign language to me. Are there any decent 'plug-in and play' systems available or am I going to have to dive in over my head? About the only games I'm interested in are first person shooter like Doom and Racing.

Yeah, I think ps3, ps4, xb360, xbone, wii, & wii u require online updates, before playing.

It shouldn't be too hard to do. Just google & they usually have "how to" write up or even the vid bout it.

Not sure what you're referring to...but the whole idea of game consoles is that they're plug and play versus PCs. The PS3 is super simple even compared to a PS2...you plug the power cable into your wall, and do an HDMI to your (hopefully) HD TV. And then you turn it on.

Also, get a Playstation. Gran Turismo is more hardcore than Forza. Dont' let anyone tell you otherwise. :D

Nah you don't have to worry about connecting it to your computer. All you need to do is connect the PS3 to the internet (either use WiFi or plug straight in with an Ethernet cable) and you will be good to go. The PS3 will require updates to be installed and that's basically all that you have to worry about, games will usually have updates as well. But as long as you are connected to the internet with decent speeds you should be fine. It's like connecting a new laptop to the internet and installing updates, fairly simple.
