Heel and Toe

Now, how do you do your heel and toe?

Yes, I know how to do it, and I have been doin' for almost 10 yrs. I notice that my friend do his h&t differently than how I do it. He use only toe and outside toe to do it (I guess toe & toe?). He said that there's no space to actually do h&t on his S2k, but when I drive his car I can do h&t without problem. Yeah, he's 6'1" with size 12 shoes and I'm 5'11" with size 9.5 shoes.

Just thought to hear what other drivers do their h&t.

Well on my corolla i use h&t but on my other or past car like the 240sx and G20 the gas pedal and brake pedal are so close to each other that i use the side of the foot or shoe and toe so i guess its called side and toe lol. But my corolla has a wider gap between the gas pedal and brake pedal, but i adjusted my bake pedal lower so it seats same as the gas pedal

I will always 'H&T' when I need to downshift while braking with intention of acceleration afterwards, but other than I might do it just to get in a lower gear while braking however that instance is more rare. In the subaru and with my 10.5 shoe I usually use the brake with the ball of my foot and either use the outside front of my heel or just roll my foot using the outside of it.

i heel-toe the proper way. ball of my foot on the brake, rotate my foot over to blip the throttle with my heel. the ONLY car i haven't been able to do that with comfortably had the most poorly-placed pedals of anything i've ever driven. ever. 2005 Saturn Ion.

otherwise, i've been able to heel-toe every single car i've driven with no problems.

5'9" with size 9 shoes. :D

I'm also 6'1 with a sz 12 boot and it depends on which car I'm driving but most of the time I have to do T/T.

5'9", in the morning 5'10" lol

wear a size 10 shoe, depending on style / brand 10.5 but usually one or the other.. currently its 10.

I could H&T the Matrix and Kia, and when I was racing my friends RX-7 (gently as it was my first time in a RWD and first time in his car) I could H&T just fine. Only on the rare occasion would I roll my shoe to press the gas pedal, but I've done that too. My preference is to the full H&T method, feels more comfortable to me.

So I'm hearing that the size of the shoes and the pedals distance change you to do T&T or H&T?

RWDJunkie 04-01-2010 09:53 PM

^ Yeah. Me thinks shoe size affects it. Hell, I'm 5'10" and i wear 10.5-11 shoes. And I have trouble doing h&t in some cars. :(

Yea, sounds about right. If the shoes are big, even if they're the same size, I have to use the side of my foot. My Nike Shox are pretty tall so usually I use T/T. When I dont have any shoes on I can do it the correct way..

then again, driving without shoes on is not the correct way to begin with. :)

I could never understand it, but my older brother would take off his shoes when he drove the Matrix, I couldn't figure it out for the life of me. He always just said the pedals are comfy... I don't know if I believe him or not.

Now... here's big Q. If height makes the difference of doin' H&T or T&T, here's vid of Ayrton Senna doin' T&T. Vid said H&T, but you can clearly see that he's not using the heel. IIRC Ayrton Senna isn't taller than me. He's 5'7"~5'8" (correct me if I'm wrong on the height).
Ayrton Senna T&T

I have driven NSX once & I can do H&T without problem. Pedals are close, but not that close that I couldn't do H&T.

Siriusly.Andrew 04-02-2010 01:34 AM

maybe thats his style? maybe because the kind of shoes he was wearing?

its hard to say...

Franisco 04-02-2010 03:28 AM

Its easier to feel exactly where the pedals are at. Some shoes with thinner soles are fine though. I need some Pilotis
