OFT - First E85 tank in my car. Acting weird.

First off, the pump was oddly labelled and oddly priced. I went in and asked the attendant and she assured me it was in fact E85... I was expecting about $2.90/gal but it was $3.66????

Drove about 5-8 miles after switching over. Felt gutless and I got weird-high MPG (like 38mpg city). This is on the Stage II e85 1.34.

Does anything look wrong here? I'm newb to all of this fancy ODB2 stuff.

Judging by your advance multiplier value and LTFT, that wasn't e85. That octane rating of 87 is wrong. E85 should be well over 100. Definitely go easy until you burn that fuel off. Looks like you got 87oct gasoline.

I would notify the attendant at the gas station.

u drove 5-8 miles on a 91 map with e85 on the tank

thats bad..

anyway, your ECU has to learn the new fuel mixture whack will take at least 100 miles for it

It says regular unleaded ethanol free on the button.

I done goofed. I'm on the e85 map. So....maybe I should go back to the stock map for this tank and baby it? Thanks for the helps. Like I mentioned, I went in and asked the attendant if it was E85 (there was conflicting labelling). I guess she was wrong?

yeah I think you got sold regular unleaded gasoline from a badly labeled pump. it does say 87 octane ethanol free

The ecu doesn't need much time at all to learn for the new fuel. Just as long as the new fuel is suitable for the tune. After the fuel in the fuel lines is burned off (should only take a mile or two of normal driving), you should be good to go. And even during that time I've never seen knock activity since gasoline will run very rich. That is not to say hammer it right after a fill up of course.

My plan:
siphon out pisswater into jerry cans for my mower.
switch back to stock map
fill up with 93.
run tank dry
try for E85 again elsewhere.

Thanks for the help guys. I should have been 100% sure before pumping.

That has got to be the most confusing pump I have ever seen!

On the top it says e85 but on the button it says ethanol free 87? WTF? Was the pump handle black or yellow? (just curious).

Regardless, switch back to a 91 map and see if your fuel trims clean up and your advanced multiplier gets to a reasonable level. I wouldn't expect 1...but maybe .6 - .7? If it is truly 87 octane in there right now you are running wayyyyy too much timing and fuel.

I just remembered you can't siphon from newer vehicles.

The pump was separate from the other pumps and had a blue hose. The gas station was labelled as an e85 station on a few apps/sites. I'm switching back to the stock map and will take it for a spin and be back with the results!

Stock map, mystery fuel take 2. Drove on it for a few minutes.

Does this look satisfactory?
