Correct oil filter for 86? 130 or 160/15A?
 

Hi Guys,

I've searched through a number of threads on the forum but am not yet sure which is the correct type of filter we should be using on our 86s.

Is the 15208AA130 the correct filter to be using or the 15208AA160? (The 160 I understand to be equivalent to the FRAM/Honeywell 15A)

I read there was a TSB indicating we should use the 160/15A, however in Australia most dealers are still using the 130.

Which is the correct filter to use and on what basis should we be using it?

Hope someone can clarify and thanks in advance!

Just had a service done on my BRZ and they used the 130 filter. The 15A is a blue taller filter, the 160 is black like the 130 but taller. I think you are correct about the 15A, IIRC there is a thread on here somewhere that states the 15A is made by Fram. Not sure who makes the 160. Not sure on the TSB as your country may issue something that we don't get and also not sure what you mean "on what basis should we be using it?" Do you mean how often to change the oil? If so you will get many different responses on that. I'm a 3000 mile guy for everything I own. Hope that helps.

Use the 15208AA130 it's made in Japan. The 160 is also good, but it's been replaced by 15A and a lot of folks saying it's not very good. I made sure to get the 15208AA130. From what I know...it's what came with the car from factory the 15208AA130. I hope that helps.

Thanks Guys, yea the 130 and 160 are both made in japan via Tokyo Roki, my main concern is there was a TSB issued (and verified) to dealers saying to swap from 130 to 160/15A - read that on another ft86club thread.

There must have been a reason for the TSB but I'm trying to understand what it was, hence the "on what basis" should we use which filter :)

Appreciate all the replies and info provided so far though. 5000km oil changes are a good engine protecting measure especially if its driven hard!

In aus they recommend 15,000km services, lol!
