Well, you can either "fix" what is making it go on ..... or disconnect the battery ..... or ask the folks at a automotive parts place to erase it ..... or buy a code reader and zap it yourself.

NOTE: The latter three options are usually temporary.

Most auto places like pep boys or autozone won't erase any codes because it's technically illegal for them to do so.

You don't.

Get the car tuned.

I'm not sure about the vehicle state inspection laws up where you live, but I don't think there's a penalty in Texas to clear the code using our machine. The problem will be there whether the light is on or not. I clear my code with my machine all the time.

Ask a local shop if they can clear it for you.

You can also get a bluetooth adapter for your car and your phone to clear it with the tourqe app. But its a temp fix and it will come back. Best thing is to a get tune and request your tuner to disable the cel from coming on.

Get a tune. Staying stock isn't worth burning up your valves. I have to wonder if people burning up direct injector seals are running intake and/or exhaust mods without tuning to account for the increased flow.

In california it is illegal, so no parts house can read codes, Places like Pep boys can as long they have a license to repair cars.

BTW erasing a code isn't a smart way, you need to read the code to find out why it turned on and repair it.

As others have said, erasing the CEL via a reader will only be a temporary fix and you likely won't pass emissions tests if your state has them.
