Speaker Rattle..know it's been talked about.
So I read some of the past threads on the speaker rattle from the driver side door. I see the possible fixes are: dynamat the doors, secure the panel underneath the window switchboard with foam, tape, or dynamat, installing better speakers/sub/amp.
What I want to know is what is the easiest, most effective and least invasive way of fixing this problem? Could I possibly take it to the dealer since my car is 2 weeks old and just tell them to fix it by securing the rattle underneath the window switchboard? Recommendations? Also, if you're in the Broward/Dade area can you recommend a shop to do this at? I don't want to attempt taking the door panel off as I have never done that, I'm anal retentive and don't want to muck anything up. NOTE: I DID read all of the previous remedies for this but I want to know the easiest and most effective solution. Also, I listen to my music pretty loud, have the EQ setup with Max Treb and Max Bass (it sounds best for my music which is typically hardcore, punk, metal, NIN, Manson, etc.) I don't currently have the funds to afford an entire new audio system. I own a 2014 FR-S with the new Touch Screen, I don't have the Premium BeSpoke upgrade. |
My Input
- I got the speaker rattle as I was driving the car home off the lot - I do like audio so I replaced the door speakers and dynamat the doors - The doors are not hard at all to pull off, don't be afraid of doing it. That being said, I still have speaker rattle. I'm not entirely sure what is actually rattling. I've never looked into fixing the issue as it only happens rarely for me, and only when the music isn't very loud. My speaker rattle, I believe, comes from the dash speakers. |

I noticed it when my music is VERY loud and there is low, droning bass (for instance the Manson Song - Kinderfeld, really makes the speaker rattle like there is loose change in it) I listen to my music at volume settings of 30-45 so I listen to it pretty loud. I have my stock unit set to the FEEL setting with Treb and Bass at Max. The rattle was always there, and could be remedied by pressing my leg against that speaker whilst driving, however, today whilst driving to work, the rattle became REALLY evident and seems to be louder and looser sounding than it was previously. I know that the general consensus here is that it's the window switchboard plate underneath those parts. How easy is it to remove the door panel and how easy is it to put back with it looking as if nothing happened? You see my fear is that when you remove things and start mucking with them, other things become loose or don't sit quite right and I HATE that. I'm pretty anal retentive but then again probably overly paranoid. I'm new to the car tuning world and I do want to learn but....you can understand my apprehension on this. |
Honestly, your pushing the system harder than it was meant to. Its not really set up to push max treble and bass (this is sloppy and wrong) and then at such a high volume. I'm not going to spend the time typing out why (I've got 4 computers to reimage and 2 pay systems down). If you want to push a system like that, you just need to upgrade the entire thing so you don't have to set bass and treble to max.

I shoved a travel coffee cup snd smashed a soda can in the cup holder. Rattle stopped. Anything that will push the door panel out will work

I figured as much, my crappy Mazda 3 was able to do it though, and I'm sure that had a worse sound system than this. The speaker rattle is just annoying. Maybe I'll dial it down and see if that remedies anything. |

This seems kind of primitive lol I wanted to avoid fixes like this, especially if it's visible. I was thinking of jamming newspaper around the area inside the speaker but same problem occurs where I'll have to remove the door panel. |

Sorry, I reckon that wasn't much help ..... :( humfrz |
Everything I read points to the door/window switch trim piece and/or wires

On my long days to work music is the only thing that wakes me up. On the weekend, it's windows down, music off and all engine ;) |

What's your stance on fixing it with the most efficient and least intrusive way? Cost is also a factor for me currently, however, if the dealer can do it if I tell them exactly what it is, then that would be great. |
