USB/aux relocation

Just wanted to share what I did this past Saturday. I never liked the stock location of the USB and aux input because the chord(s) had to lay across the center console if you want to put your phone in the cup holder area, or even if you put it in the useless little front cubby I still found the chord(s) to hang in the way. Passengers were always sitting on them yada yada so I moved the ports.

Bought one of these

[ame="http://www.amazon.com/3-5mm-extension-Flush-Motercycle-Xtenzi/dp/B00CNUFGN6/"]Amazon.com: USB & 3.5mm AUX extension Flush Mount 2 Meter Cable , 1/8 AUX Car Bike Boat Motercycle Lead By Xtenzi: Car Electronics[/ame]

and simply plugged into the stock ports and buried the connections in the dash. I then removed the 12 outlet from the center counsel and bored the hole out slightly to accommodate the mount and heres how it looks:

Works nicely with my Carsmo armrest, I can hide my phone under the armrest easily or throw it in a cup holder

For the now empty hole where the stock ports were I used a blank switch hole cover, you can buy/order one from a toyota dealership:

I drilled a hole in the blank and used it as a switch mount for my traction control override

not a huge fan of the switch but its what I had laying around, I'll probably swap it out for something better looking later.

Oohh haha I would love to blame auto-correct or something, but I'm honestly just a horrible speller

Nice work. I was going to drill a hole and remount the USB above the current power socket. I had brought a standard USB like the Amazon one.

Which I could get the AUX in to work with my aftermarket head unit and I'd get one of those Amazon ones instead.

You can, check this out

AH, seen that before. I've got the Adapter and the USB works, but my HU doesn't have an AUX input. So that's my problem.

I want to put mine in the glove box, and just permanently hook up cables and leave everything in the glove box. I never take my ipod out of the car, I bought it a while back specifically for car audio.

Does that amazon adapter fit into the cigarette lighter hole without modification? and does that little aux-cover have a hole/toggle switch in it by default, or is it naturally just a blank cover?

TheBatman 12-23-2013 12:30 AM

I had to bore out the hole a bit to accommodate the amazon port. The cover does not have a switch, its just a blank that I drilled a hole in and used a switch from autozone.
