Crawford or 2jz it up

Hi guys. I have done a few posts on here and I am looking for feedback.

I am on the verge of doing a 2jz swap on my FRS but I just recently encountered an opportunity to where I can do a full build like the Crawford Performance BRZ. All my parts would be purchased and I am looking to the forum for some opinions. One of the biggest pros is that the weight of my car wont be affected as opposed to an iron block getting placed in the bay. I am calling Crawford tomorrow to get more details and looking at the specs I feel this would be better for overall performance (street and track mostly). Thoughts and opinions greatly appreciated.

One thing I know for sure is this: My FRS is going to be a nice little toy until I buy me my GTR again hehehe:thumbup: :burnrubber:

Oh and the TRD exhaust and intake will most likely be coming off of the car......PM me if interested in either or both......My car is at 9500 miles and it came with the parts so they have 9500 miles on them. Let me guys

My only problem with the Crawford build is that it seems to have had some issues in all the videos I've seen. Granted the motortrend video was in 100 degree heat, but dropping that kind of money I would want something that will be reliable on the track. Maybe they've solved the problems by now, since it was the development car, but it is something I would certainly look into. I'm a bit of a noob here so I could be missing something completely

i love both engines. i'd choose a fully built fa20 instead an older 2jz

Do you plan to go straight only or expect it to handle and stop well?

Overall I want to keep my handles and stopping. I am getting bored with only going straight (not saying drag racing is a cake walk). I want a fun challenge and I love driving. The perfect balance of power and handling capabilities is what I am looking at. I am thinking when I have my tuner dial it in to hold back on the torque a little bit. On pump lower 400s maybe very high 300s and e85 is where the beast can be unleashed. I DD this car so I am going to be on pump most of the time anyway.

If you have 30 grand and patience for over 4 months do a 2j if not build a fa20 cause its cheaper and can be done in smaller increments

Yeah I have patience to do it but this is a good opportunity for me to achieve this build at minimal cost so if I had to choose I would do that one instead. Sounds like it would be a better choice. Plus built motor and boosted so I can work with this in the future

I personally lean towards the FA20, simply because it seems that most people when they do motor swaps want to do 2JZ. I say go for something different

I thought built FA20 engines were horrifically unreliable.

Build the fa20!

I'm a huge fan of the 2jz but something about all that cast iron up front kills it for me. I'd look into an lsx motor before I'd do a 2jz to be honest. But crawford has already shown that th FA is good for making power.

Like earlier stated, seemed like crawford was plagued by issues. I'd find out what sort of issues they had first and go from there.

STFU about LS engines.

For your power goals a 2Jz is over kill, if you wanted to build a drag monster id say do it but for your goals a solid turbo kit and build would easily get there for alot less work and money.
