TPMS NOT lighting after winter tires installed
Hi friends,
Just wondering if someone could shed some light on this matter - got a set of winter tires installed today (X-ice 3's and 4x inexpensive alloys) and was expecting that since the tires do not have TPMS, that the light would go off. To my surprise, I've been out driving for 30 mins or so and the light still hasn't come on. Has this happened to anyone else? Does it take a while before the car tries to ping the sensors to notice that they're not there anymore? I know it wasn't an issue when I had the stock tires with the TPMS as I've had the light go off before. Thanks in advance. |
No TPMS on cars in Canada IIRC. But if your car did come with them, then you have to drive at least 20 miles before the light will come on. Then when you park, if you're in vicinity of the TMPS sensors, the light will go off until you do another 20 miles. This has to be continuous driving, not drive for 10 miles and then shut the car off and drive another 10 miles.

The correct TPMS valve stems can be fitted and then your TPMS light will go out. Not before. The BRZ did not come with TPMS in Canada which is a big bonus in my view. TPMS as currently implemented is dangerous and useless. It false signals more often than correctly. It also warns only when tire pressure is already dangerously low, down 6 psi I believe. Useless. |

People should get used to checking tire pressure regularly regardless of TPMS or not. |
It'll come on, after a little while. Took mine about 50 miles, and every time I lift the car off all 4s it'll reset and come back on after another 50 miles or so.

I put my winters on without tpms sensors on Friday. Have driven around a couple of times this weekend, all less than 20 miles. No tpms light on the dash yet. I am keeping my stock wheels and tires with tpms sensors in the garage with hopes that they will keep the light from coming on. Most of my trips are less than 20 miles, so I am hoping for he best.

Mine came on today. Took almost a week, since installing my new wheels/tires. lol.

I would suggest you have a read here and in the attached links especially regarding TPMS in Canada:
