235/40/18 tyres on 18x8 wheels??

Will 235/40/18 tyres fit and perform fine on 18x8 +45 wheels?

The reason for 235/40/18 is I can get Michelin PS3 tyres for AU$800 here, but the 225/40/18 would cost AU$1000+

Yes it will just to give you an idea i have same wheels spec but my tires are 245/40

It definitely fits. I am using 235/40R18 Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric with 18"x8" +49 Volk GtS. I have no issue. Handling is good with No rubbing.
