STILLEN & AP Racing Unveils Radi-CAL Brakes

If you haven't heard yet, STILLEN and AP Racing just unveiled the new Radi-CAL Braking Systems. These brakes have been used in Formula 1 and NASCAR with huge success and now they are available for production cars. There are limited applications but we are in the process of developing kits for more makes and models. These systems are around Lighter, Stronger, and more efficient then the standard AP Racing Brake Kits of similar size.

Is this something you would like to see available for the FR-S/BRZ/FT86?

Interesting product. I'll keep my eyes on it until more information is available. Thanks for sharing.

Pretty cool Stillen, glad to see you guys jumping into this platform. Had gobs of your goods on last mustang was good stuff.

Thanks guys! I would love to get a kit developed the for the twins. Its all gonna break down to how much interest there is for these systems. They are a little more expensive than the standard AP kits, but they are vastly superior to anything else out there.

@Team STILLEN: What do you estimate "a little more expensive" to be?

Team STILLEN 11-08-2013 04:49 PM

Around $1000 (roughly) more than the normal 6 Piston AP kit.

Rebuild costs? Pad diversity? Rotor cost?

Team STILLEN 11-08-2013 05:05 PM

Currently the kits available come with a Ferodo Stree/Light Track pad. We plan on having Race only as well as Autocross/Light Track pads as well. Rebuild cost should be the same as the standard AP Calipers. Rotors I will have to find out more about. Some of the replacement rotors we off for the Standard AP Kits are DBA and cost a lot less than the AP Rotors so I will not know cost for a little while. Expect normal AP Rotor pricing until we have a DBA replacement (typically 40-50% less cost).

Can we get some more details about where the weight savings comes from, where the extra strength is coming from?

And what was in the decision making process to sell these with street pads? I know I'm very often surprised at some of the things people buy for there cars in an effort to make it LOOK like a race car, but do people really spend this kind of money for a big brake kit and not race it?

The weight savings and strength come from the calipers being Forged instead of Cast. As far as Pad choice goes, that will change with time and what the customer wants while ordering. These are brand new and we are still working out all the details. I would not worry about Pad material for now as that is easily changed. I will have more information next week.

Is this meant to be a more performance offering or a all-around offering? Are you or Eric more versed in this product for chatting? I'd like to discuss possible track applications, but it'll be heavily dependent on the pad backing plate shape, and how easily pads are obtained for the setup. Our current AP Racing setup has virtually every pad on the market available for it, and it makes for very easy testing on our end.

Team STILLEN 11-08-2013 06:21 PM

They are meant to be both pure track and all around application. People looking for a great looking caliper for show, people doing track and street driving, as well as full track cars can use these brakes.

I would speak with Eric about pure track/race applications. He said he tried to get a hold of you before SEMA. Give him a call.
