p.s. I wanted to try to mazda with moly but the local dealer wanted $9.70/qt so I'm back to the drawing board.

Have you tried Motul 300V?

CSG Mike 11-08-2013 12:31 PM

300V is a little bit out of his specified price range... unfortunately. $10/qt prices him out of all the top tier stuff.
@autobrz: What is your planned OCI?

Anthonytpt 11-08-2013 12:35 PM

It's ~$6 over the specified range, but seeing as there will be track usage in Texas, I figured it was worth asking.

Eneos 0w-20 At Oakos Automotive is $54 for a 6 quart case.

I don't like changing oil so the closer to 7.5k the better.

Also, if a more expensive oil can last longer for me, then it is still a good deal if all the less expensive oils need to be changed more often. $10/qt is a requirement I came up with without thinking about the effect of OCI on expenses. So what are my options if considering any price?

300V is going to be around 15-17/qt shipped, but it is a top shelf oil.

I run a UOA on every oil change on my own car (s2000), and I run it for 10k miles between changes, although the UOA says I can run it for longer. The 10k includes plenty of redlining, canyoning, and tracking, and the car sees desert heat during track days in the summer (as high as 120F ambient).

I recommend you determine your OCI via UOA, as everyone's experience is a bit different. If you buy them bulk, theyre $18 each, +10 for TBN tests.

Here are some 300V UOA on the FA20.

Ranatsu - BRZ Motul 300V HR - 4,801 miles (half life check)

lordtakuban - FRS Motul 300v 2nd oil change - 6k miles

I put it in at my 7500 mile oil change and have not changed it yet. I am going to change it at 15k and get it analyzed. My car is mainly highway, driving 8 miles to work in the morning, and 1-2 autocrosses a month. If they say I can go longer ,which I am sure they will, I will probably bump it up to 10k between changes.

autobrz 11-08-2013 01:26 PM

ah. autocross not the same as 20 min sessions...
