A way to make this happen quickly was to decrease the charge pipe size. However that car did not see that done as the owner went to a front mount later on to make more power with a bigger turbo. However he really liked the setup but at some point you do run out of room for bigger turbos. But then this was a V8 setup not an FR-S 2.0L.

These systems do have their pitfalls and its nothing major.
1) if you blow a coupler it can be harder to get to but that's not uncommon for turbo cars.
2) Providing oil to the turbo can be an issue but STS really got that down years ago when they started these kits.

These kits are what you want to go with when you want stealth. If I wanted to go completely hidden this would be my choice but I prefer the Supercharger idea I have.

STS makes a decent product, is it perfect no. But then I don't know one shop that has a perfect product its all just a matter of opinion and we all have an opinion.

Decreasing the intake pipe, the exhaust pipe, or both?

I'll just leave this one here :)

ohhh.. I like that.

well damn...

Oil less turbo certainly makes it more appealing. I'd rather frequently service it then constantly worry about a pump failure.

Still would like to the patent STS supposedly has on rear mount turbos

jamesm 12-16-2013 07:31 PM

you could steal that whole setup with 5 minutes and a pair of pliars.

taylork057 12-16-2013 07:34 PM

i feel like if someone were to give me an "oil less" turbo, i would have no problem returing it completely destroyed. Theres no way it can last 30-60 mins at wot on a road course.

If they can, kudos.

Anybody have this kit? I would love to see some baselines and test results if any.

This is the answer i got:
"With the current turbo 260whp @ 7psi. We'll be changing the turbo this next week and will post new numbers. Our goal is 300whp or close to. All pre-ordered kits will come with the new turbo." STS fb

I can't wait for this, very excited. It sounded so good on the Youtube clip.

That sounded pants-tighteningly exquisite.

i mean really, when was the last time an oem put a turbo where the muffler goes? there's a reason.

True that! If the pipe in question is not 100% charged all of the time = "at pressure" from the moment the car starts (or shortly thereafter), there will always be lag time in building up the pressure.

Crazy idea:

Goes to FBM to install premium base kit with GTX28 and the works. Wants to be different and decides to fab an STS like kit by myself, essentially making this a twin turbo setup...food for thought.
