Great Job Guys!

"Seventy percent of BRZs sold are equipped with a manual transmission."

not really saying MT is better than AT here.
but to note that we, as enthusiasts, showed the manufacturers that there are still market for MT option.

Damn right. There's no substitute for a clutch and shifter.

I wouldn't be driving this car if Subaru didn't offer a MT. It adds to the driving experience.

If you don't have a notchy second, you don't have an 86.

i drive a manual, and i still see the benefit of having AT
:)

I would have paid $1500+ more for Double clutch transmission than the manual I have... too bad it wasn't an option. Having 2 cars with notchy makes me tired to drive a manual...hoping to fix that soon with the stuff I bought.

Hey it was my first manual as well. Had it a week and a half and I'm getting pretty good! Half of the fun for me is it being my first stick.

I wish I could un-learn how to drive a manual just so I could enjoy the learning process again. Still haven't gotten into heel-toe'ing, so at least I still have that ahead of me.

But had Subaru fit a shorter final drive ratio to allow the automatic to accelerate as quickly as the manual I think a lot more buyers would have opted for an automatic.

Manual gearboxes are disappearing rapidly, and with good reason: they are too slow.

An 8 spd torque converter automatic using similar ratio spread to a 6 or even a 7 spd manual is going to be significantly quicker.

This is why Porsche, Ferrari and McLaren all fit DCT transmissions. Torque converter transmissions are actually better yet for road driving as they are smoother and lighter than DCT for the same torque capacity.

Who buys an 86 because it's fast?

Here for the experience.

I've owned maybe a half-dozen vintage manual sports cars and absolutely loved them. But for the FR-S, I had to go with the six-speed automatic. The zero-feedback fly-by-wire clutch just took all the joy out of the experience for me. Shifting the notchy gearchange and operating the tall clutch just felt to me like a tedious chore. So I opted for the "Starbucks latte on my way to work" model. I loved the car, I just couldn't bond with the modern manual. :-(
