Toyota previews FT-86 Open Concept for 2013 Tokyo Motor Show

Toyota to Display New Concept Vehicles at Tokyo Motor Show

Tokyo, Japan, November 5, 2013
-Toyota Motor Corporation will display seven concept cars in its Toyota-brand exhibit at the 43rd Tokyo Motor Show. The show, to be held at Tokyo Big Sight in Koto Ward, Tokyo, will run from November 20 to December 11.

Under the slogan "Fun to Drive, Again," the concept vehicles are aimed to convey Toyota's vision of a future mobility society that values the joy of driving. The Toyota-brand vehicles on display will underline Toyota's efforts to contribute to society while creating ever-better cars that exceed expectations.

FT-86 Open Concept (World Premiere)

As a study model based on the rear-wheel-drive "86" sports car, the FT-86 Open Concept was created to explore future sports car variations.

As a convertible boasting an electrically operated soft top, the car lets the driver feel at one with nature while maintaining the 86's joy of driving and sense of oneness with the vehicle. A new "Flash Red" body color, used specifically for the Tokyo Motor Show, gives a new twist to the iconic sports car red.

FT-86 Open Concept specifications: Length: 4,240mm. Width: 1,775mm. Height: 1,270mm. Wheelbase: 2,570mm. Occupancy: 4.

So maybe the convertible is not as dead as has been reported. I prefer the coupe but that actually looks pretty good. It reminds me a bit of the Aston Martin or Jaguar luxury/sport ragtops.

I'm glad they ditched the blue and yellow interior.

also looks like "Baboon-ass red metallic" is back. *making grabby hands*

Looks great with the top down, 100% down, at all times. It looks so ugly with the top up and I doubt anyone would ride 100% top down also haha. If they are going to indefinitely have a convertible, either have a hard top convertible, or no convertible at all. The interior is very nice, however.

I'm surprised someone has not done this to one already. Hack the top off, pop some rivets into the body, big-ass wing and call it done.

Showing (7) concept cars, wonder what the "other" 6 are?? Better be a damned Supra within next year showing its' face that's all I gotta say.

Looks pretty good with the top down. I don't like the wheels/cheese graters...or whatever the hell they are supposed to be. Interested to see what the other cars are actually.

No Supra - The usual boxy minivans that the Japanese love, a bike/car type thing, some new electric car and a hybrid (Prius based) Sports Hatchback.

The Aqua G (the hybrid sports hatch) is a pointer to which way Toyota are going, especially after the fictional Yaris Hybrid-R was promoted.

I am very interested in the Aqua G hatch. I love that Yaris hybrid. Very nice convertible ft86. There will be nothing better to drift around in it.

Now this curious me. It took Toyota 2 years to show concept prior to the rumors. So the convertible probably a MY 2015. Then the 2.5l will be MY2016....as the rumor is a year later.

Could it be that first gen FT86 last special edition is 2.5L before it evolves into second gen ?
