Pros and Cons of the Rocket Bunny Kit
 

Just as the title says, I'm wondering what the positives and negatives are when you build a wide body car. I'm debating whether I should go wide body or just stick with a 5 axis kit. My goal is to build a track/functional car.

Pretty much requires custom wheels which can vary heavily in price, of course a much larger cost in tires. The larger/wheels tire package and aero will slightly lower your MPG

You of course gain grip and its very unique.

I dont see anything too big thats a downside other than cost

My downside is cutting into the rear quarters. If you don't prep everything afterwards... You're just inviting rust into the car to have to deal with down the road.

I grew up around Datsuns... so I HATE rust. so very... very much.

I've considered purchasing the RB kit but have a hard time getting myself to cut the quarter panels. If you were to ever sell the car, whether you want to or not, you're now limiting yourself to a limited crowd interested in a car with such an aggressive kit. Once you start cutting, there's no going back.

Pro: You'll have the ugliest FR-S around. Con: You'll have the ugliest FR-S around. Extra ugly points for not filling the rivet holes. Even the 5A looks wrong on this car.

yup and once u go rocket bunny u can never go back to your 5axis or anything else! although the rocket bunny is super sick

I don't get the whole bunny kit thing at all. Looks so slapped on kills looks of an already curvy clean car IMO.

I want to say a good 90% of all cars i saw in formula d had the rocket bunny kit on. Including scion's greddy fr-s driven by ken guchi

Pro: wide body kit, wide tires/wheels, clean look.
Cons: shaving your fenders, drilling holes, adjusting fitment(CONSTANTLY) until you get it right, buy spacers to get that wheel sticking out, camber alignment, suspension tuning, get it flushed....fill in whatever I missed

Con = It'll handle like shit compared to stock due to the increase in scrub radius.

What kind of power mods are you looking into? Unless you go turbo with gobs more power, putting 18" rims, and wider tires can actually cost you time on the track instead of helping unless you have the power to take on the higher unsprung weight and rotational forces dues to the weight of the rim being further away from the center, there's no use for them compared to the same, only slightly smaller tires. Oh and don't forget bigger brakes, since it will be harder to stop the car with larger and heavier wheels.

If you want to have a better handling FRS. talk to CSG Mike. Save the cash from the Bunny kit and get shocks and springs from CSG Mike. It will be much more worth your money. And your car will still look good.

Cons: Price of kit, Price of a re-paint.

Cons: The cost to mold in the flares. Be is a shop or done yourself.

Cons: Full RB Kits looks like shit.

It's terrible when people want to do something that differs from your personal preference isnt it .. *shakes head*

Obviously the OP likes the styling, so why force your opinion down his throat?



On topic - cutting up your rear quarters, you want to make sure it's done 100% right, as someone else mentioned, you dont want rust. Also practically needs a full respray to blend the colours in. Unsure how it will affect handling, I assume there will be correction kits available to compensate for the extra track.

I do plan on putting a full blown turbo in spring 2014. Thanks for the suggestion, if ultimately the non-wide body car handles better, then I'll probably just stick with a 5 axis or perhaps a lip kit. I just want to make the car look a little more aggressive. My goal is functionality, but would like to make the car stand out a bit.
