Dealer says power steering pump responsible for chirp

I have already had my entire fuel pump assembly replaced (May 2013) because of the chirping issue. The chirp seemed to go away for a while but It has come back. I took it back to the dealer to ask if they had any new news about the issue and they said that there was new TSB which is identical but has 1 new part number. I left my car with them for a couple of hours and they had someone come to look into it further.

I just picked up my car and they said that they have ordered me a new power steering pump. They said that somehow air was getting into it and that is what is making the noise!? I thought toyota had already said that it was definitely the high pressure fuel pump.

Has my toyota dealership solved the mystery or are they just incompetent? Should I be worried about driving around with a bad power steering pump for who knows how long? Has anyone had any problems with their power steering pump?

Those cars have no power steering pumps or even power steering fluid. It's an electric motor (EPS). Change dealer.

This. If their techs are so incompetent that they can't identify a power steering pump or lack thereof, I'd stay FAR away from them. Even for oil changes, I'd be worried that they might drain the transmission instead of the engine.

The chirp is more than likely coming from the starboard diesel engine. That's what my dealer said anyway.

I feel pretty silly for even posting this here. I should have known that. I called them and spoke to the manager who told me that there was a mixup in tickets and assured me that they did in fact order a fuel pump assembly not a power steering pump. He also let me talk to the parts manager who told me that this is a new fuel pump that should fix the chirp. Fingers crossed. Its the only toyota dealer in town :(

From a fellow New Mexican, I'm glad you posted, so if someone else is told this they can confidently rebuff the claim. Any mockery in this forum is directed at the tech who provided you misinformation. Good thing they squared this away before mounting a power steering pump on you car.
