Toyota GT86 Sedan Rumored for Dubai Motor Show Debut

I don't know if anyone is following the Dubai Motor Show on Facebook, but they said that a ft86 based sedan will be unveiled.

AutoGuide.com has a write up:
Toyota GT86 Sedan Rumored for Dubai Motor Show Debut

Quote:

A Facebook post and photo from the Dubai International Motor Show is touting the brands new “Wave design” stand set up, as well as the unveiling of a new GT86 based sedan, suggesting that the concept would make its debut at the Dubai Motor Show. The post is accompanied by a photoshop of a GT86 sedan.

Earlier reports of the GT86 based sedan stated that the car wouldn’t make its debut at an international motor show until the next Geneva show, making this Facebook post even harder to believe. Attempts to contact both Toyota or the Dubai Motor Show have been unsuccessful.
Could this sedan really be closer than previously thought?

Here's the facebook post they're referring to btw: Dubai International Motor Show

If concepts were production vehicles, I'd be driving a Mazda Furai. Or any number of countless vehicles.

Chances are, if there is a sedan version being considered at all, it'll be for the next model cycle, and the current concept is just Toyota seeing if the platform could handle the upgrade objectively and subjectively with or without various upgrades and allows them to test the marketplace waters.

Yes please. Aston Martin, Maserati, Porsche 911. These are sports cars that the "everyman" cannot afford. The FRS is. These cars have 4 door versions of their sports cars. I think Toyota would be smart to offer one as well. I personally think the Aston and the Maserati look outstanding.

The fr-s has nothing to do with 4 doors. It's a light weight sports coupe.

I think you should buy a passat. That's an affordable
European sedan.

Actually it would be kinda cool if they reused one of the discarded FT86 concepts as the basis of the Sedan's styling.

And the hatch chop looks quite good - a bit more bloated than Ichi's, but I like how the C pillar terminates (maintains the coupe's window shape)

Tetsuya always had the idea of this being an expansion platform. I don't think this ever was a "one off" design. The FRS that you know today is just the primary offering. They already mentioned a desire to expand the line in the same way Mini has and in the same way Fiat has.

The company is aiming the sports sedan at parents who learned to drive on Japanese sports cars of years gone by, namely the Toyota AE86, Honda S2000, Mazda RX-8 and Nissan 200SX.
“It’s just my personal dream that the GT86 could become a family like what BMW has done with the MINI family. I hope that happens,” wrote Tada in a blog post.

So basically, the the FRS has nothing to do with only being a lightweight sports coupe.

And because I  haters....

More 4 door versions of great coupes:

At the bottom of the article above is another link that basically says, "Ugm, never mind".

"News of the car’s sudden arrival hit over the weekend with a post on the Dubai Motor Show’s official Facebook page.
Sadly, the show (which opens today) will come and go with no such vehicle. “We absolutely have no plans for a sedan concept at the Dubai Motor Show,” said Toyota Europe PR rep Danny Chen.
Careful to pick his words, Chen did not deny the existence or plans to debut a four-door GT86 some day, but most certainly not at the Dubai show. That leaves open the possibility that rumors of a sedan version of the car could come true."
