Cracked Oil Pan?!

So I changed my oil about a week ago and everything seemed fine. Today, I back my 86 out of the garage to clean her up when I notice a puddle of oil on the floor, directly under where the oil pan was.
I jack up the car to find that the drain plug was pretty snug.

After reading a couple reviews, what are the chances of the leak being a result of a cracked oil pan? Thoughts? Thanks!

There is a crush washer that goes under the plug. If it doesn't seat right when tightened it can leak. Check it.

The OE crush washer is a crap design. Replace it with a suitable dowty washer.

I doubt the pan is cracked unless u hit something.. If it was ur first oil change.. Did you remove the crush gasket first? The one that comes with the car is painted black and looks like its part of the drain bolt. I had to use a razor to seperate it before putting on a new one.. That's probably your leak...

This was my second oil change. I didn't have this problem after my first oil change, which is weird. My problem is solved now, hopefully, no more leaking. I had to slightly unscrew the drain plug and re-tighten it. I hope i didn't lose the crush gasket during my first oil change! :sigh:

I know when I get my filters from my Subuar dealer they include a new crush gasket with the filter. If you plan to do lots of oil changes on your own hit up the dealer and get 5 or 10 of them so you have them on hand.

Are you serious?! I've been getting my oil filters from Subaru (over here Toyota/Scion are asking $20 for a filter!!) and never got a crush gasket. I'll ask them for one before my next oil change, thanks for the tip!

It's a crush washer. Replace it every oil change or it can leak over time.

At my dealer they charge 2.95 for that gasket. I'd be surprised to find out that the cost is over $0.15...

When I bought a filter at Capitol Subaru they gave me a new crush washer.

Seriously guys, NEVER re-use those washers! They WILL leak if you try to re-use them. Get new ones EVERY time.

Subaru's have had these washers forever... Its always been this way with these motors.
