Looking for opinions on what my dealer sent me on another BRZ order.

Hey all,

I recently had an email exchange that at one point almost convinced me to cancel my [pre]-order of the BRZ. I'll spare you from having to sift through the conversation but here are the details was setting off alarms:

Limited WRB Manual
Wheel locks - alloy wheels
Auto - dimming mirror/compass
Rear bumper underskirt
Total MSRP: $29,322

Assuming the dealer was charging MSRP on all accessories it is still off from what you get on the Subaru website. Note that as far as I understood from the conversation I had this didn't even include destination. Is it possible my dealer sent me numbers for someone that is paying well over MSRP on the BRZ or is there some figure I'm not seeing that would put this in line with what we should expect to pay? I'm already on edge about buying the BRZ since I have no idea when it will arrive and what last minute shady shit my dealer might pull... What does the BRZ hive think?

bladesamurai 04-16-2012 09:12 PM

You could just tell them the total cost you came up with from MSRP + destination + the cost of those accessories and say that's what you'll pay.

Guff 04-16-2012 09:13 PM

The options you mentioned bring the BRZ to:

$29,214 (Dest. Included)

IDK where the extra $108 came from (taxes?), but you should double check that and check if is Destination is included.

If Dest. isn't included, you dealer either got it wrong, or is charging you a markup.

MSRP on dealer accessories doesn't include installation, so that extra difference may be labor.

joshua 04-16-2012 09:32 PM

That MSRP isn't for my order... that was for I'm assuming the first person on their list. For my order I was very explicit in that I wasn't paying over MSRP... I really don't want to email my sales person again because as we were communicating over I was getting angry and when their attitude went south I almost replied back that I wanted my deposit returned and I was going to just go buy a Genesis instead.

Since the accessories are being installed at the port shouldn't pricing be the same across the country for those? I haven't seen any mention about what Subaru is charging to install those accessories...

The MSRP has varied at my dealer as well. The Subaru.com prices have been cheaper than what subarunet shows for a VON. I was assuming they were adding port installation charges or that one was simply wrong.

Since I'm not wasting money on options I can install myself later (after buying them for less anyways) my MSRP is the only one that's accurate so far.

RRnold 04-16-2012 09:49 PM

That sounds like MSRP for everything.
$27,495-BRZ Limited Manual Transmission:
$750-Destination

$789-Underskirt

$281-Auto dimming mirror w/adapter

=
$29,315 This is not including the wheel locks. Btw, I would skip purchasing the wheel locks from the dealer.

^ note, destination charges change depending on where it gets shipped (try it on subaru's build your own BRZ). That might explain the discrepancy

Also, make sure the dealer chose the correct auto-dim mirror.

By default, the destination is $695 so once you enter your location, then you will get the accurate value but they seem to already include with the MSRP. San Diego is showing $775.

A/D mirror w/compass: $165
Rear diffuser: $749
Wheel locks: $29.95
With my zip code and those features, it's coming up at 29,214.

It says in fine print that prices don't include installation so that will vary from dealership to dealership. This is prob where they'll rape you. They'll probably charge 1/2 hr of labor to install the wheel locks, 2 hrs for the diffuser and another 2 for the mirror.

I noticed dealers were charging a 10-20% premium over the actual MSRP prices of accessories on the Subaru site.

It's interesting that the fine print is there at all. From my experience with other brands, accessories purchased with the vehicle (i.e. on the VON) are either installed at the factory or at the port and thus the price you see already includes installation. I'll have to contact my dealer to see what information they can provide me as to the accessory installation costs.

TBH, I've never seen accessories already installed, esp the exterior and small items like wheel locks. For spoilers, in this case the rear diffuser, they will more than likely send the car to their body shop.

A premium for a Premium...that's fantastic! :bellyroll:

That rear diffuser for $750 is retarded! Give it some time for the GBs to kick in and you can get that item for a lot less.

Joshua, Who is your dealer? I'm in Spanish Fort, AL. I'm buying from Koby.
