The pros for this setup definitely outweigh the cons. With this, you get an oil warmer, oil cooler, and you don't have to worry about losing engine oil due to core or line leaks. It really seems like the way to go. I simply plan on installing just the oil cooler without upgrading the radiator as I don't see any track use in my immediate future. Regulating under hood temps via cooling the engine oil down as well as getting to operating temp faster is a big win for me. Plus the added peace of mind of reduced oil temps preventing degradation. * Pretty much talking out my ass here. |
Based on my experiences so far, my coolant temp has not risen over 200 in hard driving. It will get up to ~210F sitting still before the fans kick on like usual, but never over heated or got hotter than 212F.
For some reason I can't log the oil temp parameter in BRZedit even though it shows it on the logger, I'm going to email epifan about that. You may not even need to upgrade the radiator unless you are seeing over 210F on the track, but if you're tracking it you should have already upgraded the plastic end-tanked stocker anyway :P |
Hi Carnz, can you please post the part number for the BRZ water bypass pipe the equivalent to the FXT 14050AA970. I can't find the part number online, Subaru's website only shows pictures and description, but not sure if this is the right one...would help if I could get the BRZ bypass pipe part number..I'm thinking of taking the pipe modified by a local shop and swapping it out when I'm ready to add the oil cooler.
Also you mentioned a bundle deal, what kind of pricing are you talking about? Please let me know. Your write up has been helpful, but it's missing some steps for those that has never installed the oil cooler before... I don't see it in my head how the water is being diverted from the water pipe to the oil cooler and then back into the system...sorry just need to clear up how it's connected and whether I need to buy the 14050AA970 part or modify the BRZ version or buy the BRZ version and have it welded extra outlet. Thanks, Lastly, do you think one gallon of the SOA868V9270 Subaru long life Coolant is enough...I hope this is the right part number. |
15208AA130 is the part number for the BRZ oil filter.
You need Subaru Super Coolant not the Long Life Coolant. I will get the part number tomorrow at work. I will also look up the BRZ bypass pipe Monday. I have removed my bundle after finding that it all can be had cheaper from Heuberger than what my parts manager wanted to do. |
Sorry about that...too many part numbers to keep track... so I read your posts again, thinking of modified BRZ bypass pipe would be better in terms of no kinks...just have to pay a welder to do it and keep it stock looking.
If it's not too much work...a hand written diagram would be helpful....understand if you don't have time... your thread has been very helpful. Thanks! |

Subaru has a few part numbers for different cars with different sized oil coolers. Maybe it would be useful if we can find a part number for a bigger capacity cooler from a different model that would work for us?

This will give Cusco competition, nice setup!

Is this the Forester XT inlet and outlet connection and what CARNZ had used for the BRZ set up? As shown in the first attachement from Kostamojen's picture?
Thank you Kostamojen for your proposal... your way seems to save the cost of getting another water bypass pipe Kostamojen's water routing for the oil cooler picture (second attachment) I still like to get get the full part number of the BRZ water bypass pipe in case I need to buy it. |
