Your favorite music
I want to broaden my musical horizons.
Please reply with: 1. Your favorite artist/singer/songwriter 2. The first song you've heard of by this artist 3. How did you come about discovering this song 4. Your current favorite song by this artist Feel free to share more than one of your favorite artists. Please, please, please... I cannot stretch this enough... PLEASE... no rap, unless it's about something other than "my **** is big, I do drugs, I have lots of money, I have bitches, I have guns, I don't like cops, etc..." I'll go first. 1. Elliott Smith is my favorite singer/songwriter of all time. 2. "Miss Misery" [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HsixXCnYVfA"]Elliott Smith - Miss Misery - YouTube[/ame] 3. This song was featured in "Good Will Hunting," one of my all time favorites. 4. "Between the Bars" [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yXB-dZsMLrI"]Elliott Smith-"Between the Bars" from "Either/Or" - YouTube[/ame] Your contribution is greatly appreciated. |
Since I'm still up.

1. Rush 2. Subdivisions 3. My dad purchased a new Signals album (on cassette) because he had just gotten a new vehicle that had a tape player. I was ~9 years old at the time. 4. They have over 130 original songs, so this would be hard. I can say that Signals is my favorite album though. Every note of every song on that album is perfect. I'm at work, so I can't see your YouTube links or post any myself, but some other more modern songs I like that you may not have heard (off the top of my head) would be... Profugus Mortis - The Beauty of this Form Equilibrium - Mana DevilDriver - Desperate Times Eluveitie - Inis Mona In Flames - Dialogue with the Stars Korpiklaani - Karhunkaatolaulu |
I just noticed you listed The Postal Service. Other bands like them that I like would be The Decemberists and Of Monsters and Men.
For The Decemberists, some good songs would be: Any song off of the Picaresque album O Valencia! Summersong July, July! Shanty for the Arethusa The Chimbley Sweep The Rake's Song Rox in the Box Down by the Water And for Of Monsters and Men, the entire My Head is an Animal album is awesome. I think they might actually play some of their songs on the radio. I've grown so far out of touch with pop culture, I have no clue what's mainstream and what's not anymore. |
My favorite artist would probably have to be Devin Townsend. He is a musical genius in every sense of the word... I love him because he has songs that touch each and every emotion.
My favorite song by him [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dm8uxb8Cwtk"]Devin TOWNSEND - Bastard - YouTube[/ame] The album that this track is taken from, Ziltoid the Omniscient, it was *literally* a solo album. He did everything himself, for the drums he used software called "Drumkit from Hell" [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H5BqyluKkk0"]Devin Townsend - Hyperdrive [HQ] - YouTube[/ame] For rap, you cannot beat Eyedea. In my eyes, he was more of a poet, no new music from him though he passed in 2010. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qIeuPrZwHj0"]Eyedea - The Dive - YouTube[/ame] He wrote this at age 19... [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q87e6zNRJ3s"]Eyedea - Even Shadows Have Shadows (HD Quality) - YouTube[/ame] This was written at 13! [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iU1X7Pt2JrU"]Eyedea & Abilities - Ode to Hip Hop (13/14yrs old it was written) - YouTube[/ame] He was probably the sickest freestyler/battler as well |
Devin Townsend is the shit.
"Welcome to A&W, can I take your stinking order?" |
@SoCal909, I've been listening to so much Devin Townsend in the last week. I have Ziltoid in my car and like to listen to it in its entirety when I'm on long drives. But since this thread, I finally sat down and listened to all of Terria from beginning to end. I was only familiar with "Canada" and "The Fluke" even though I had the whole album on my computer. Good stuff.
I'm listening to music on shuffle right now. Strapping Young Lad just came on it reminded me of this. |

I just listen to Bayside and Senses Fail radio stations on Pandora. Works very well for me.

haha i came here to make fun of the no rap thing and also point out the other music thread that is probably hundreds of pages by now but i see there are some townsend fans. that guy is a fucking monster and the best part is that its not a big genre. once, i saw dtp, scale the summit, cynic and btbam for fifteen bucks. that show ripped my face off for sure.
on a side note, getting to see the black dahlia murder on saturday. |
