Scion FR-S versus Scion xB

4 Attachment(s)
All,

I drive a Scion xB (RS5), and I experience amazing power and a spectacular driving experience. This goes without mentioning that I have a lot of versatility to go to the store on the way home, etc. For example, I fit 3 bicycles for my sons in the back of my xB on the way home from work the other day. I really like the look of the FR-S over the xB, and I am most likely going to make the cut. But, I just wanted to know if some of you could comment on the xB versus the FR-S to help solidify my decision.

Thanks,

Davyator

It basically comes down to this, practicality or having fun. You mentioned you stored 3 of your son's bicycles and i can guarantee the FRS wont be able to do anything close to that. I think you should elaborate a little more on the topic, i find it hard to understand why you would choose the FRS over the xB when you have a family, unless you got another alternative.

This is a joke right?

lol wut.

If you have a family and need practicality for trips and occasional furniture then you need a hatch.

If your are single or have no kids and want to have a good time then you need a coupe.

FR-S is not a family car

So what i gather is

The xB, as far away from a sports car as you can imagine, has enough power space and fun for you.

Thats good because that means you dont need 6000hp and the the precision of a lotus to have a good driving experience.

Another

The xB is a box on wheels, the FRS is a sports car, two polar opposites in the motoring world...

You can fit 3 bikes into an xB, you can probably only fit 3 bike TIRES in an FRS. You have tons of room in the xB, you have tons of room IN THE FRONT SEATS in the FRS. Ones a sports car, the other is a boxy hatch.
They're not remotely comparable.....

This has to seriously be a troll post because...this comparison makes no sense.

Because dealership only getting FR-S preorders and still not selling xBs?

Personally, I think if you believe that the xB offers "amazing power and a spectacular driving experience", an FR-S is not for you. You won't fit 3 bicycles in the back, nor will you fit anyone in the back seat. You may scoff at the idea of putting premium fuel in it, too.

I stopped reading after the part about amazing power and spectacular driving experience.

Funny, that's the part where I wanted to read more!

Keep driving xB.

If this is a joke, it's a very good joke. How are the FR-S and xB comparable? ONLY that they are sold in the same showroom. Kind of like the BRZ and WRX, which is why I've ignored ALL threads / posts comparing those two.

Anybody who sees this thread as ridiculous but is willing to engage in discussions about the WRX needs to stop and think.

The WRX can get you 0-60 in under 5 seconds, and with a few hundred in mods you can be even faster. Plus it handles well enough, and stores a lot more than the BRZ.

For the same price, for some that outweighs the other characteristics of the BRZ. And I'm sure they're both fun cars.

The xB is a people mover, that's all. I can't really see it being fun to drive.

Fun to drive is relative. The WRX may have power and versatility, but an AWD car with an engine in front of the front wheels is not a car that directly competes with the 86. Handling is not defined by grip alone. Wait until you drive the 86 to understand what responsiveness and balance are, compared to a WRX.

Just because one person cross shops two cars does not make those cars competitors (i.e. in the same segment). One may need to make a personal decision between practicality and sportiness, but the argument for WRX vs. BRZ is as invalid as a minivan vs. an Elise. Where is the line drawn? xB can't be fun, WRX fun enough to compete with BRZ?

The valid discussions are 86 vs. other sports cars, sporty coupes, etc., such as GC, Mustang, Miata, and so-on. Many people will have to decide between a sports car and a car in another segment (sedan, hatch, etc). Instead of arguing merits of the cars, it's as simple as which one do you want/need? If I want a FR coupe, I won't consider a sedan or hatch. If I need 4 doors or storage space, I won't consider a sports car.
