XXR 527 help
 

Hey guys So i just received my XXR 527 Black 18x8.75 with a 20 MM offset. I am new to the rim world so i have a couple of questions. what tires do i need for these rims? I hear i would need to lower and camber my FR-S to accommodate for the small offset, could i get spacers to counter this? if this is wrong can you please update me on what i should do. If i need to camber my car should i lower it as well? Coilovers or lowering springs? Thank you very much for your help! :thanks:

Offset does the opposite of what you'd think. The smaller the offset number, the farther the wheels "poke" out towards the outside of the car. Check out this thread, particularly the table related to flushness: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7535

Going off that table, 8.75" wheel width accompanied with a +20 offset is going to poke out a lot. Flush for an 8.75" wheel, at stock ride height, would be around +47 in the front and +40 in the rear. This means your wheels will poke out about 27mm up front and 20mm in the back. You can bring them in a bit by lowering the car, but I'm not sure how far you'd have to go to get them close to flush.

What look do you want? You want some poke? Want flush? How low do you want to go? What suspension components you have so far (coilovers with camber plates?)

Look through the xxr 527/530 thread here, several guys running +20, which is a big outward offset. Most are running flush by stretching rims and need lots of front camber adjustability, and run coilovers for clearance. That thread should give you some ideas of the look you want. Cheers

Well I would want to run a flush look with minimal chamber because I hear chambering would not allow me to drive fast. I would want to lower my ride height 1 inch.

Should have researched this before buying the wheels.

These wheels in the +35 offset they are available in are pretty close to flush with a 1inch drop on springs or coilovers.

Your +22 offset wheels are going to require lowering and a fair amount of CAMBER (not chamber) to provide a flush-ish fitment. Only a few threads below this one is a thread dedicated to the XXR527/530 wheels with pictures showing how they look in both +35 and +22 offsets.

To avoid rubbing you will need a narrow tyre that stretches onto the rim, probably a 225/40 tyre depending on what camber you end up running.

I fitted up some matt black 527 in 18 x 8.75 +35 up front which fit pretty good I must say and +20 on the rear which do poke out at standard height quite a bit. I am lowered on bc coilovers with about -2.8 camber in the rear with no adjustable arms and atm they still have a small amount of poke, but I actually like how they sit.

Also I am running 225/40 all round!

DanVIIIVI is spot on - the +20 offset rims are popular with the 'stanced' look. If you want a performance 'flush' setup you'd be better off with +35 offsets and at least a 235mm tire.

could i get spacers to make it around the +35 offset?

i would want to have a performance flush but i bought the +20 offset to correct the offset issue may i use spacers?

Unfortunately no, spacers would move you out, opposite of the direction you want to go.

Really good visual aid for your chosen wheels and tyres, also helps you comprehend how offsets work. This is specially programmed for the FT86 vehicles.

This one works well too, but it doesn't allow for wheel widths of 8.75, only 8.0, 8.5, 9.0 etc... But also helps digest the information about offsets.
For the sake of the exercise in the attached example I have used a wheel width of 9.0"

You can run 225/40 or even 235/40. I have the same width, I'm running 225/40. Yes you would need to lower and camber it since that would poke too much since the +35 offset is just flush. No spacers will make you poke even more. When you lower your car you will get natural cambers in the rear, and the front you can just get camber bolts. No point in cambering without lowering, it'll look odd. For springs, you should get something that lowers more than an inch, or just get coilovers for more adjustability since you'll be able to adjust camber up front, I'm not too sure whether just springs is sufficient to make it flush
