My general opinion is if that it's a brand name wing with a relatively flat angle, the owner knows what they're doing, or have at least attempted to learn.
If a wing is no-name/ebay/incorrect in proportions, and/or has has a huge amount of angle to it, then I'll usually consider it rice. There are rare exceptions to this. |

I would say not rice on the basis that its a mod that is actually doing something. unnecessary mods EX this wing if you where never going to see track time and had it just to look cool as you drive to get pizza, IMO would be more along the lines of rice...IMO rice is just the collection of unwarranted / not necessary cosmetic modifications...:( |

I know I'm setting myself up for disaster here possibly...but I wrote a Ricer Blog back in 2011, feel free to read it... I'm sure 1/3rd of my ramblings came from a few beers or more LOL but it still makes me laugh when I read it :)
Keep in mind back then my knowledge was limited haha http://randomramblings24.blogspot.com/ |

I actually felt bad for the guy, even though he did it to himself. Who puts a fake plastic supercharger on their hood, and Supercharger lettering on a car, when it doesn't have one. So embarrassing. |

The Honda that Seattle_FT86 posted... now that's rice. It's also the majority of what I see around here. Another thing about Wing's is the context. If I see a big wing on an FT86, I'm probably not thinking rice, even if it's a little excessive. When I see a late 90's Ford Escort or Chevy Cavalier with one... I'm thinking rice. Also, someone said that their definition of rice is unwarranted or unnecessary cosmetic mods. I disagree. I think rice is excessive and over-the-top cosmetic mods for the purpose of trying to "look cool." Rice is pretty synonymous with Poser, IMO. Someone making functional modifications for racing isn't a Poser, and therefore not a ricer, regardless of what the car ends up looking like. However, if you track the car but make it car look ridiculous, and also daily drive it... expect people to get the assumption that you're a Ricer. tl;dr I don't consider rice to be comsetic-only mods, I consider rice to be mods that are on the extreme end, usually done distastefully, and aren't used functionally (even if they could be)... just to get attention or because you think it makes you cool. To me, Ricer = Poser. |
