AT swap to MT

So, I made the mistake of purchasing an AT FRS. At the time it seemed like a good decision but now I am regretting it. I am missing out on a lot of aspects of driving this car the way it was made to drive because I am held back by auto. So I have been looking into purchasing a 6speed FRS Manual Transmission Swap. The kit comes with basically everything I would need material wise, but I wasn't sure how much this is going to cost me to have it done. I would be having a shop do all the labor considering I don't know how to work on transmissions. How much would I be expecting to pay to have my AT swapped to MT. (Even though I already paid $1000 extra for AT)..........

Thanks

There's only 1 answer to your question: no, don't do it.

Sell it, take the hit and buy a new one. You'll end up savin the money on resale value alone by a mile

yea it would probably come out to the same price, if not cheaper to just trade the car in for a new 2014 MT and it'll all be warrantied and whatnot

Definitely cheaper to sell yours and buy one with a MT.

Just out of curiosity what is the auto holding you back from doing? Maybe a mod or two would be cheaper/easier to get the desired result

Another vote to just trade it in or sell it to Carmax and buy a new MT frs or brz.

I went through the same thing with my AT, but when I'm in traffic for 2 hours that feeling quickly goes away..

Absolutely what he...possibly she?...said!

Plus, if you have one of the original builds you might be more happy with the next build (if there has been any changes) as Toyota continues to trouble shoot the ECU and Active Valve Timing Control for the cams. Best of luck.

I ended up trading my auto in at the dealership and it didn't hurt too much (the double Cali sales tax hurt the most...).

I looked at it this way: I made a mistake, and wasn't happy with the auto. Would it be worth the extra $$$ on my loan for a manual?

In the end yes I'd say I'm much happier with the car now :). I have to say though make sure its what you want before sealing the deal! The auto is *very* good compared to other autos - performance wise its very similar to the manual except it most likely shifts faster than you & no launch. In the twisties it really was very fun but the manual is obviously more fun to me.
