Blue is just related to the kelvin/temperature of light. Most HID kits over 6K get blue "ish".

Past 5k you start losing usable light...

Get 8,000K and you will get bluish look. However, like Basket Case said above, you start to loose the light output.

I suggest for headlights, white is right.

 There is no reason to cheap out on one of the most important things you use for nighttime driving.

I thought most HID kits are like 100$ ?

Are you saying $300 is cheap for a PnP HID kit? You could buy like 2-3 quality kits for that lol...or 5 shitty ones

cooldandani 10-27-2013 07:36 PM

Lol true but I've seen people here saying they've spent 80$ on their kit just wanted to see my options.

yep. there's plenty of info online about the human eye response curve to understand this
snached from one of the first links i came across

When discussing LEDs and displays, it is important to note that the human eye response peaks roughly at green at 555nm, is sensitive to yellow, and falls off sharply toward blue at 400nm and toward red at 700nm. This can be seen in the 1931 photopic (daylight) chromaticity diagram, shown in a simplified form in Figure 2. The curve for scotopic (night-adapted) is quite different, peaking at about 512nm.

and i'd recommend getting a kit from theretrofitsource.com, bit as a mod for their forum, i'm a little biased...

The BMW's headlights are "blue" because of the cutoff, not because of the kelvin.

They're going to be standard 4300K bulbs (which gives the most light from an HID)

ft86me 10-28-2013 02:58 AM

get some bulbs that will emit a white light. you don't want to be spending money to be losing light. I personally have 5500k HID bulbs from Toms and it's a nice bright white. I had 4300 before but it was the oem yellowish type of light and wanted whiter. mind you these are in my edm headlights that have the projector housing meant for HID with a built in ballast to the housing.

Wait a minute, you are putting those in the stock housing? You're going to be blinding the Sh*t out of people. please don't be one of those people. do a retrofit or get jdm/edm headlights and then get some legit hid bulbs and call it a day. Or you can get away with sticking your finger inside and pushing the squirrel spotters down on both, but the cutoff is going to be crap still.
