Toyobaru joint project, but who's manufacturing / designing what?

So I know this is a joint development project between Toyota and Subaru and the car uses Subaru's 2.0L boxer engine.

So does that mean both toyota's and subaru's models will have same chassis? Transmission?

Will both cars be manufactured at the same plant?

Which company has done the engineering for this car?

Sorry for so many questions but I haven't seen this kind of joint development of a sports car since Mitsubishi and Chrysler joined to form DSM and produce the Eclipse / Talon, so it's kinda fascinating to me.

One thing I've read is that Toyota has done most of the engineering for the project.

I would think that the subaru version will have AWD... thats their bread and butter. That's just my guess and nothing I've actually read.

Chassis was co-developed by both companies and will be shared by both but I believe only the Toyota version will be RWD. Both cars are going to be built in the same factory. Also read somewhere that Toyota's transmission is going to be outsourced to Aisin Seiki... could be wrong though.

Good info, new to me. A toyota or subaru factory? Have they shared manufacturing plants before?

Both cars will be built at Fuji Heavy Industries. Basically a Subaru factory but Toyota has stake in the company. I don't believe they have collaborated in producing a car before.

Thats interesting, one thing I remember about Toyota was that they had the manufacturing side of making a car down pat. Things must have changed in the last 10 years that now its in their interest to have another party manufacture their cars. Either way, I've always been happy with the Subaru build of cars, they are different but not bad and I think the car will be in good shape.

They probably wanted to share the development cost of creating this "unique" platform. I'm definetly interested in seeing how this chassis develops into different sorts of sports cars for Toyota and Subaru.

Yea true, I see this partnership only as a good thing as it will bring more people and more unique development into the fold! :)

Unique chassis which will be shared with new Subie Impreza. Motor will be a Subie boxer 4 utilizing Toyota's new D-4S direct/port injection combo system (you can also just barely make this out in the underhood shot of the GT5 video -- that almost definitely does NOT say C-45, as people originally thought...).

I'd like to hear more about the the motor options, but Toyota has been quiet. In theory, it will receive the newer version of the Impreza EJ20 motor -- anyone know if that has a dual VVT head?

All of them will be manufactured in Gunma Subie plant. Be instersting to see what items are unique and swappable between the two versions...

Here's a fun fact, Gunma happens to be where most of Initial D takes place!

I think only toyota will have this car.. I really don't want to see any subie emblems on it. lol and I hope they don't come out with an AWD model.. RWD all the way...

Well subaru will have their own version of the joint 086a project. I think thats pretty much a definite. But hopefully it looks different enough to really set the two apart.

yeah if it looks different like in the Spy Shots of 086A that came out today there will be no problem..subie's version will be ugly...

As long as it has the boxer engine under the hood, I don't care what company's logo is on the front. I just love that uncorked boxer sound.
