Power variance
Yesterday my car felt like crap. Really down on power, to the point where I was wondering if something was wrong. It literally felt 20hp down.
Today it puts me back in my seat. Conditions are near identical. Same temp and humidity. I've had this before too, where the car never really seems to take off. What could be factors limiting the ECU in these cases? Anyone else have days where the car just feels limp and other days where it feels great? |
I have yet to drive my FR-S, but my 2005 Hyundai does this same thing. I'm already expecting the FR-S to do it, but I'm hoping a tune will make it less moody.

Is your engine AND transmission AND diff completely warm when you witness these variances?
|
How would you know if your differential is totally warm? Or maybe I should ask, how long does it typically take in a daily driving situation?
|
I usually feel it pretty soon, and it stays that way for the day, usually. Sometimes it gets better when it's properly warm, or worse when properly warm. I usually let my car get away with murder while cold, though. I know most engines have less than ideal conditions until the oil is warm.

When my aircon cycles on/off it makes the torque dip a lot worse and unpredictable.
With the aircon turned off it drives perfecto. |
Tried that. It kind of feels like when the ECU retards timing due to oil temp after lapping for a while.
I should start logging stuff to see what the ECU does... |
Fuel? Or maybe phantom knock kicks the timing down for a little while.

Wait...you haven't driven your car yet? Are you deployed in the military? |

I bet part of it is psychological - weird I know, but I have experienced the same thing. Sometimes a car feels fast, sometimes it doesn't, and a lot has to do with your state of mind and how engaged you are with driving the car. Sounds like bs but I'm pretty sure there's something to it.
