Perrin 3" Catback on Turbo FT86 (review)
i just installed a perrin 3" catback onto my car, so i figured i'd give some first impressions/quick review after some driving. my car is turbocharged, thus the choice of the 3" version.
i got a killer deal on the system for under $900 shipped 2nd day air on ebay (they've since raised the price), and it arrived undamaged. the brushed finish looks awesome, but you're probably all familiar with that. i will note that the welds looked pretty bad compared to the rest of the system, mig where tig would be more appropriate.
the install went really easy, did it alone with a couple of ramps. i've read horror stories of getting everything lined up properly, but mine seemed to go on pretty straight without much effort. i could tweak it a bit to get it exactly perfect, but i'll leave that for another day.
driving the car on the highway there is no drone, which was surprising. the sound is very restrained just driving around. you know it's there, but it's not obnoxious or 'farty' at all. at wot all hell breaks loose (though still rather quietly), and between the exhaust and the turbo it makes some pretty damn beautiful noises for a 4 banger.
i'll post up some videos if anyone is interested, as i wasn't able to find an example of the 3" on a turbo car. it definitely sounds way different than the na vids i saw, far less raspy and seemingly much quieter.
pros: looks great, sounds awesome.
cons: welds don't live up to the rest of the package
