First Service Appointment: help with my punch list
 

Tomorrow AM I take my 10 series in for my first service at 5K mi at it's home dealership. I had the oil changed at 1K elsewhere, but I'm not even going to mention that fact tomorrow.

So, obvi I will have the oil changed. My question is what else have twins owners had done or had luck with getting the dealer to do for repair/maintenance?

Here's what I have so far:

-change oil
-rotate tires
-engine makes a squeaking/chirping sound at idle - i know it's the Crickets but i will play dumb for them as I want the crickets documented on my file and vehicle history in Scion/Toyota database.
-shifting gears grinds in 1-2-3-4.
-loose coin or nut rolling around inside drivers door.

What else to ask for at the dealer 1st service?

I plan on being relentless with the Crickets and continue to present my car to the dealer with the Cricket complaint for as long as it continues to happen.

I'm over 5k and haven't spent a dime at a dealership.. why not change oil/rotate tires yourself? it's part of the fun of ownership IMHO.

i hope you dont come back to this thread and say your dealer filled your car with 7qts of oil.

I like free things and this oil change is free. I appreciate the lack of confidence in the dunce techs who do this work at dealer service but I'm thinking I can get tires rotated for free. First thing I do when I leave the dealer will be to check the oil level.

I'm going to get my first oil change free soon also so this is helpful. After that it'll be a DIY.. I just want the first one at least to be done by them. I pretty much have the same issues as you do. Also what is this 7 qt of oil horror story about?

Check your lug nuts too...

Nissan dealer rotated tires on wife's Sentra, forgot to tighten nuts on right front wheel. Results not pretty.

They do rotate the tires for free, unless you have a staggered setup like myself. I believe it's only free for the first three times, after that I would suggest doing it yourself.

Wash the entire car, detail it inside and out, test drive for faults, remove and rebuild engine and transmission just to ensure there are no defects......

Change the oil and filter but only because Subaru insists, their required change interval is positively antediluvian.

That's it.

-Have em put silicone on your window seals
-Top off all fluids
-mark the oil filter so you know they actually changed it

Not many mechanics service cars like it's their own. Laugh if you want but cars are too big of an investment to cut corners on. Theres been too many horror stories. Don't have faith in dealerships until you get to know them

x2 on marking filter. Scratch the top with your keys and also make mark on wheel, so you know they rotated it (put a bit of tire shine on front wheels)

Also, I'd tell them NOT to wash the car!

Do you have a winter beater? If you don't, I see no need to rotate the wheels if you're going to throw winter tires on them in a few weeks.

Same problem -- wife's Sentra, nut fell off on road, but was held by hub cap. Made a racket. Fortunately, was able to put it all back on right before worse things happened.

I just took my 10 series in for first oil change at 3,200 miles. went to a dealership close to home for first time, complained about the crickets and asked to use my first scion care oil change and the service writer said no problem. 1 hour as I told them not to wash it. the service writer told me he would not document the chirp noise as that would delay the time the car would be held. at first I was upset about that but then knowing the many reports from others about the sound I knew it wasnt something that I wanted to pursue at that time. after the car was done he told me they didnt really hear a noise and everything seemed ok when I asked if others had complained he said not many lol. I felt the difference of fresh oil right away tho so I know they changed that, got home and when I checked under the hood they had disturbed the light dust ( car had been sitting for 2 weeks) around the oil filter area, however I forgot to mark the filter so iam not sure if they changed it but its still subaru oem and it looked really clean compared to everything else. overall I am happy with the dealership oil change no problems, but the lack of support for the crickets had me a little worried.

From what the service writer said, it sounds like their policy is to investigate every documented issue with the car...and because there isn't a confirmed 100% fix for the chirping fuel pump (and while annoying it isn't harmful to the car) it would be a waste of everyone's time to look into it. IMO the writer made the right decision there.
