Oil System?

Does anyone have any technical details? I've never owned a Subaru, so I'm not sure how they handle lucubration. I know with a boxer engine, Porsche uses a dry sump system to ensure lubrication through excessive cornering.

Subaru lubrication is usually pretty good. They use a conventional wet sump and tend to run relatively high oil pressures.

Dry sump in a sub-$30k car... *sigh*, if only ;)

On the street they work just fine. For auto-x or track work there is a tendency for oil to pool in the outside head during extended high-g cornering which makes it more and more likely that the oil pickup will be exposed to air. This has caused more than a few bearing failures in WRXs.

For street driving, just keep an eye on your oil level and keep it properly filled. For HPDEs, amateur drifting or serious auto-x work, consider getting a baffled oil pan if the car doesn't have one stock. Maybe even a accusump if you're feeling paranoid. Dry sumps are overkill for anyone who isn't pushing the car way past what it was designed for (pro drifting, unlimited time attack, etc)

As greg said, a baffled oil pan is a good idea.

KillerB motorsports also makes an oil pickup which we have seen great success in tracked and race STis. I am sure that the boys over at Killer B will have an oil pickup and baffle for the BRZ engine soon.

We are also one of the few KillerB Motorsports Authorized Dealers and installers.
