Open Flash Tablet Question

When I had my BMW 325i going in for service, I noticed my mechanic used a device that I believe is the OFT to read my BMW error codes.

Is the OFT device he used on my BMW capable of flashing maps on my BRZ?

I'm trying to decide between buying a used unichip off the forum here for ~240, ponying up $500 for the OFT, or ideally asking my mechanic to flash maps for me for cheap (or free ).

I'm pretty sure they're vehicle-specific.

i think they are only lock into 1 car only. I'm thinking to get one as well, anyone is using it and tell us how is it?

This was mentioned in one of the OFT threads. You can send an 86 OFT in and have it reprogrammed for BMW or vice versa, but they won't support both at the same time. And, as mtsui mentioned, it's "married" to one car anyway, so you couldn't flash a second.

I can't imagine your mechanic bought an OFT to use as a diagnostic tool...

The OFT is married to one car at a time and it will not have an affair. :eyebulge:
