Radar Detector Question

Hello,
I've been recently thinking of purchasing a radar detector, not so I can speed, but hopefully I can be more conscious because I've had a few run-ins even when I wasn't speeding. I've been reading articles and I'm stuck between REDLINE and V1. People are claiming REDLINE is stealth but the V1 has arrows, so i'm leaning towards the v1 since radar detectors are not illegal in California. I was wondering if I was ever to be caught with a radar detector in california, should I attempt to hide it or just leave it in plain sight? If I should hide it I'm planning to hide it below the radio, in the cell phone compartment. I've also been reading articles about how cops can detect radar detectors so is there any point of trying to hide it? But i've also hear stories of cops confiscating them.

Quite unsure what to do.

Also curious, I've looked into these before but never tried it

I no longer have radar detector.. but this is my thought...

If you get pulled over, and you are scrambling around to remove the detector.. the cop will know.

Problem is, most cops will take your movements as a possible threat and it might escalate things pretty quickly.

I wouldn't touch a damn thing. Radar detector is totally legal, so no need to hide it.

do exactly what you are supposed to do when you get pulled over

park the car, and wait for the officer to come to your side, then roll down the window a bit, and follow direction. No need to make unnecessary movements to make the officer anxious.

Agree with wrb. A cop will assume you are either trying to hide illegal substances or are reaching for a weapon. If radar detectors are legal in your area, just leave it be.

Alright thanks for the advice. by any chance do you know if they confiscate it? I know legally they can

Go with the V1, if you are worried about it getting confiscated, order the Stealth mounting kit. I wouldn't worry about movement too much if you need to take it off and hide it

Do you have any recommendations for the stealth mounting kits?

Go with Valentine One. I am on my second one and love it. It works very accurately and has saved me a few times both in the city and on the highway.

You may wanna consider the V1 concealed display if you're worried about it being visible

If you don't mind me asking what happened to your first one and have you been pulled by an officer that has taken the detector away from you?

Why is this even a question? Velntine 1 is the way to and has always been so. Been using it for almost 10 years now.

I've been pulled over twice for other reason while I had the radar (didn't get a ticket on both occasions). I wish a cop would reach in and try to take it off. $$$

Cops that know you don't know your rights will try to hassle by stand your ground and stay adamant about the reason you were pulled over.

Disclaimer: I currently do not have one installed and that's purely due to laziness.

No I sold my first one to a friend when I sold my s2000. I bought another V1 from a friend that needed $$ when I bought my STi and have it hard wired in it. I've never been pulled over for speeding (knock on wood) probably because I don't drive recklessly or anything. I've never even heard of an officer taking a radar away. I don't think that's even legal (I could be wrong)

vote for valentine V1

OP.. what do you need a Radar for anyway?

(just asking)
