Decided to quit being a troller and actually start being a little more active on the forum.

I'm Kyle and I have always loved RWD sports coupes. I've lived in Florida most of my life, joined the Air Force in 2009. Finished tech training and got stationed five hours from home. Like a lot of folks on here I have had 240s, three of those, still have two a '98 red base model with a 2J swap in works, a '96 white SE with a turbo KA in the works which I've had since I was 16, and the one with the Equips is sold.

The white car is my dad's sub 60K mile '98 factory stock car.

On to how I ended up with an FR-S...

I really love my 240's but wanted something to drive on a daily basis. So I went hunting for a fun sports coupe back in 2011. Ended up with a base model 350Z, probably the worst choice I could've made. It was fast for what it was but because it was a base model it had no LSD and zero amenities. Not really what I wanted, long story short I wasn't there when it was picked out... If I had gotten the Enthusiast or Nismo I had wanted I would have never ended up with an FR-S. So in a way the Z was just what I needed. Fast forward to early 2013 and the FR-S comes out. I read up on them couldn't decide if it's really what I wanted. In the meantime a friend buys a 2.0T Genesis Coupe. Drive it and realize immediately this isn't the car for me. The steering was over assisted, the gearbox a clutch had ZERO feel/control, but it was definitely quick. A couple weeks later a co-worker buys a brand new Whiteout FR-S. It looks great and seeing one up close got me really interested. Literally the following day my girlfriend and I went to the local dealership and walked straight in. I had originally wanted a Firestorm but they said none weren't due in for ~three months. So having really liked my pearl white 240 so much I test drove a manual in Whiteout. We both loved the car so much we decided after about five miles we wanted it. A little background my girlfriend drives a 2011 BMW 335i and she can't get enough of the FR-S. She'll steal it sometimes to go out for a drive real early. She'll come back with breakfast and the exhaust is popping from cooling down. :thumbsup:In contrast her BMW is unbelievably smooth in a straight line and with no effort annihilates the little FR-S, however in the corners the lack of a real LSD in the Bimmer makes it possible to keep up in tight bends and direction changes.

As for the transaction at the dealership I couldn't be happier. The dealer was Quality Imports and the sales person was Trish. I was really surprised by her, she really knew her stuff. No BS at all. The sale was easy and quick ended up being in and out before 11am. The only thing that sucks about this dealership is their Service Manager is a piece of crap... But other than that it's a great dealership.

Move up another couple months and I'm scheduled to deploy. Then it gets bumped up early. I rush and drive the car home to leave it with my dad while I'm gone. Had the car about three months and now I'm stuck driving a Toyota Hiace van until I get back next year ~Jan/Feb 2014. So the car will most likely see it's first birthday while I'm away. How depressing, however I will enjoy it that much better when I return. Not to mention some time to stock up on parts and have no rush to make sure I get what I really want.

The reason I put "Build" in quotes is because I'm really not trying to build a monster. I wanted something fun and make a nice daily drivable, occasional track duty car.

Planned mods include:
  • Swift FR-S springs
  • TSW Interlagos 18 x 8 +35 wheels
  • TRD exhaust, maybe intake, thoughts?
  • Blacked out headlights (retaining chrome high beam reflector)
  • TRS Retro-Quik for FR-S w/ 5 or 6k bulbs
  • LED DR, reverse, marker, and signal lights
  • Clear/JDM markers
  • TOM'S red tail lights
  • Foglights (front and rear)
  • Tint
  • GT86 interior pieces
  • 2013 Prius EnTune head unit
  • Five Axis spoiler
  • Bottomline front lip (maybe the whole kit)
  • Subaru BRZ psuedo diffuser
Thanks for looking and sorry for the long read. Updates will come but not likely until 2014 due to my current situation.

Pictures were shot in downtown Pensacola.

Ha, our stories are pretty similar. I joined the Air Guard just a year before you did, have a white FR-S, and am currently deployed. I actually bought mine on this deployment, so I haven't even seen it yet. I've blown so much money on it since I've been here. I get bored and go shopping. It's awful. I'm going to have a sweet ass car when I get back though.

I love this picture, by the way:

I was in tech school at Keesler from February to September 2010. Were we there at the same time?
