Home brew trunk mod idea

Hey, I have this idea to buy an unpainted OEM trunk, and use steel wool to make a reflecting swirl texture. then I would clear coat it. Kind of a homebrew mod just for fun because I've noticed nobody has done this. Maybe build and weld or bolt on a custom large nascar style duckbill spoiler.

Any thoughts? interested to see how this would look.

similar to this with a nascar style duckbill

Hey, whatever keeps you out of trouble this winter ....;)

However, to this old fart, it would look like you had to replace your trunk lid, got it sanded down, but hadn't gotten around to painting it .... http://www.runemasterstudios.com/gra...mages/wink.gif

Grind the 1/4 panels, let it rust, then clear that too!

...I personally don't like that fad :P But to each, his/her own.

Not my cup of tea either, but then I've never seen it done before. Having said that, there have been times when I've done my own thing just because all my friends told me NOT to do it, and when it turns out nice the sense of satisfaction is all the better. Just don't modify your stock trunk lid in case you have second thoughts afterward. :-)

Polished aluminum:

Extremely labor intensive and hard to maintain

Just throwing out some ideas

That's so gorgeous though.

deck lid is steel, so its going to be much harder to get a uniform pattern compared to soft aluminum. and any chip in the panel will cause the start of rust really quick

Agreed, but if you found an aluminum aftermarket one, it could be done...painstakingly so
