Toyota MR2 motor swap

Hey,

I am thinking about to swapping my lazy 5S-FE into a 3S-GTE (2.0 l turbo about 245 hp +), 3VZ-FE (3.0 l V6 about 210 hp with a bit work on it) or even 2GR-FE (3.5 l V6 about 270 hp but too expensive I think) but I canīt make a decision. :iono:

What would you prefer?

I'm gonna go with the tried and true method, 3sgte, that's what I'm putting in as my 5s has reached over 200k this past month

3SGTE. gonna do the swap yourself or pay someone to do it?

I am not that pro - someone is going to get paid for it!

what is the clear + for the 3S-GTE?

Midship Runabout 03-14-2010 06:50 PM

Really it depends what you want to do. If you just want a good DD with some torque the V6s stock are a good way to go. But if you want more after market support and more potential go with the 3s

NESW20 03-14-2010 08:22 PM

well, it's more a question of "how much custom work do you want to do (or pay to have done)?"

the bigger displacement of the V6 will make more power and torque given the same modifications, but you're gonna pay HANDSOMELY for it. the 3SGTE has plenty of off-the-shelf support.

i'd expect to spend around $5000+ to pay someone to swap a 3SGTE into an n/a car, including parts and labor. that doesn't account for upgrades or much maintenance stuff that you'll probably want to have done before the engine is in the car (clutch, rear main seal, timing belt/water pump, etc...)

Thats what i ment. If he just wants to replace that snail of a 5sfe for a better motor with no other mods i would say v6.

oh i didnt read he was having some one else do the swap.

Not to mention the VZ is all aluminum and weighs less than the 3S...

Abflug 03-19-2010 10:11 PM

so what I know is the 3S-GTE is about 50lbs heavier than the 3VZ-FE, whatever I think I have to testdrive them...

KKK charged 3S-GTE as well 3VZ-FE (210 ~ 225 hp) swap will be about 7K$ incl. MKII 92+ brake upgrade + suspension!

Whatīs the rate in $ for this work (only for information)?!

regards!
Tom

OK, so what do you think about the 2GR-FE (LOTUS EVORA) maybe FSE instead of the 3S-GTE?

The point is, I donīt think the FR-S will be as I wish to be near the concept like the CR-Z so I have to think about an other option if you know what I mean...
