O'Sh*t Bars?

I've searched and can't seem to find anything on this...Perhaps because I don't know the technical term for these handles but we've always called them "OH SH*T! Bars" due to the fact that you really only grab on to them when you're flying around corners...

After that description I'm sure you can guess my next question....Are these available for our car? Do you need custom ones or can you just get generic ones put in? I don't need them for myself but my girlfriend always goes to grab for it when I'm havin some fun :burnrubber:

*For anyone who still doesn't know what I'm talking about...they are the handles that most cars have above the driver+passenger window

You know, that was one of the first complaints made about my car by a couple of my friends. The lack of those bars was a pretty serious concern. I told them to use the one on the door, but apparently it's not the same. I'll say that this is probably something you will have to make yourself. I'm betting a shop might be able to do it, but as far as commercial sale, I doubt it. You'd have to anchor it into the roof and make it match. That's a lot of work for a simple product.

I have seen on the inter webs this is because of Side-impact air bags... don't quote me though....

good points good points...too bad because although I sit comfortably in my seat even if I drift a bit the passenger always will have a harder time as they don't get to hold onto a steering wheel haha

I personally miss them because I wear suits at my job and sometimes I like to keep a spare set of clothes. When I change I have no where to hang my suits and they get thrashed. :sigh:

...short of hanging onto the door handle and nestling into the bucket seats, this is the fun of being a passenger in this car.

My friends call em "Jesus bars", similar reasons to your name. :)

This too ^
Haven't come to the situation where I need it but I used to hang my suit in my Mazda3 so now that you mention it they would be good for that as well

Maybe that means you're not driving with enough spirit

The items at the following link may not be exactly what you are thinking about, but I was impressed with some of the items especially for older folks, like me. The one that comes closest to an o shit bar, but is not permanent and not very stable, is their "Car Caddie".

Decent idea, except our cars don't have window frames! so I'm not sure what you would attach that to...haha

ArgentoAtl 10-09-2013 04:08 PM

I just realized that those "Car Caddies" won't work on the twins because there is nothing above the window. Duh.

ArgentoAtl 10-09-2013 04:42 PM

I just went out and sat in the passenger seat.
The only things I could grab onto while sitting are the door handle and the driver's seat belt receiver. I felt pretty secure that way, but there was no driver, so I don't know if the seat belt receiver is accessible when the driver is in the seat, too.
