Open Flash v FA20/Visconti etc,?
Hi guys
Just wondered if anyone who previously installed Ecutek through FA20, Visconti etc., has installed OpenFlash by Shiv and can compare them from a daily drive or dyno point of view. I have both of the Ecutek's mentioned above and can't decide whether to try the OpenFlash as well. I have very little tuning knowledge so am unsure if I would get much benefit from it at this stage. |
OpenFlash is not a tuner nor is it a tune from the tuner.
Are you trying to compare tunes between FA20, Visconti and shiv? |
Yep, that's what I meant and have amended the question to make it clearer. Cheers.

It would make more sense if changed to this:
"Just wondered if anyone who previously installed tunes by FA20, Visconti etc., has installed tunes by Shiv" I would pick tuners that are open and transparent. |
Thanks for your input but I cannot change the heading and am happy with the question as it is now. Your version may make more sense to you but the fact that there is no mention of comparisons wouldn't exactly help me. :iono:Cheers anyway.
and as your version Quote:

What tune people like most is going to be dubious. There are dyno plots available for each and there is no extensive conclusive reliability evidence. Some people like x, some people liked y until he burnt a car down. shiv has the longest track record, and his tuning method is cheaper and open. I know where my money is. |
I was also wondering this, I would like to hear some comparisons between the tunes/tuners.
Personally I like the sounds of OFT (shiv) and the business behind the tablet. |

Yes I am guilty of trying to confirm what he is asking. And I did answer, it's easy to see who is a good tuner as you can tell by looking at his tunes. |
if i were paying for a tune, i'd be paying shiv. as mentioned before, he's been around forever and has maintained a great reputation. also, his tunes are open, editable, not locked-in and you can change whatever you like as you see fit. on top of that he contributes knowledge openly to the community, which i would support with my money if i was in the market.

If you already have paid for two EcuTek tunes, then I would just stay with those. If you datalog them, and think they can be improved, then ask your EcuTek tuner to make the changes you would like. The cost to get the OpenFlash tablet and custom tuning from Shiv won't be worth any small horsepower or torque numbers you may or may not get.

For what it's worth, I currently have the Unichip and if I had OFT available at the time, I would have gone that route over Unichip. Not to knock it, and it's been great and Unichip Jack is awesome, but taking it on and off for service (ie free oil changes, crickets, etc) is a nuisance. Next time it goes in, I'm going to say the heck with it and just leave it on. For the 4,000-6,000 miles I'll probably put on it a year, I may as well just do everything I want to and chance nothing major happening within the standard 3/36.
Tl;dr I'd personally go OFT if I didn't have a "tune" already. |
If you already have a tune, I don't see why's the need to invest in another tune. With Ecutek you will benefit from extra features like launch control and flatfoot shifting... Etc
