What is the best way to Launch the Auto Trans

I just got done with my turbo build and have tried a couple different methods of Launching. The turbo definately makes a HUGE difference in launching now. What is the best way to do it with an automatic transmission?

I autocross mine. The launch is the single most annoying thing on an otherwise awesome platform. I come from a long line of M/T cars. I love the A/T.
But the launch sucks.
You can stand on the brake, but I still experience wheel spin. The torque converter is set for 2500 rpm. I can make the wheels squeal,
But just a little bit. I am finding that I can launch OK by off brake run about 5' and the punch it.
Like a rolling launch.
Unless a tuner can change the s/w.
You can also try the E brake. But once you initiate wheel spin you put it in snow mode or the e brake force nanny.
I am still practicing.

From a stand still, left foot on brake HARD. Rev car, put pedal to the metal. At a high RPM let foot off brake, wheels will spin, you will get a momentary spin light (forgot the name) a chirp and then you will launch.
Not fast but better than just a launch. It is a bit acceptable.

Here is a video of me launching the car at autocross. I sit here on the brake and I let the tires spin till the rpms are up and then I let it go. A lot of people laugh at the standing still burn out but fuck it helps get heat into the tires and scrubs them in a tad.

I have also had the drivers side axle replaced by the dealer as the inner cv joint was about to go. He asked if I autocrossed it but I said dude its a auto you cant even launch it. lol

I have found if I dont let the tires spin and get the car up to the 2500 rpm stall limit and then go... the car falls flat on its face. Spinning the tires in place at launch has yielded the best results over the 300 plus autocross runs I have done in the car since I got it.

doing what is essentially a burnout before crossing the beam might get you protested... maybe, always check the supregs

It wont. How do you think its any different then a manual car doing a high rev and dropping the clutch? They sit there and do a burn out in place for a second before taking off. You just cant do burn outs in grid or the pits

The tech rep at a Subaru dealer told me to:
Traction control off, hold for 9 seconds
Stand on the brakes
Let the tires spin
Foot to the floor
Release the brake
And you launch
He stated that this is the automatic version of launch control

From practice I find that as soon as the wheels start to spin release the brake, I do not give it full throttle, I give it about half throttle.
It will launch just fine.
This method I find DOES give you launch control or at least a semblance of it.
I need to launch in a manual and compare.
Given the low torque of the BRZ, it is not going to launch like a rocket.
Might as well compare it to a Dodge Viper V10.
Who is going to win.
It is what it is. It is a blast to drive stock. I am more comfortable in this car than I was in my STU modded STI.
Besides I now have to learn how to actually drive the car. You know, driver skill and all that stuff.

Haha I was hoping people would know not to do that. It was a joke.

FastWhite 10-22-2013 02:24 AM

Lol. I agree that is something not to do.
So, this idiot tried it. Car actually wouldn't let me
Is get the rpm up, soon as the gear shift moves it dropped the rpm's.
I believe the stall convertor is set for 2500??? Rpm. Please correct if I'm wrong.
Even doing the launch as I mentioned above, the car will NOT let you rev to high rpm's in gear.
That is were the M/T is better than the A/T.
But it is still a joy to drive.
I will keep practicing, next race in 2 wks.
I will let you all know how it goes. I got over 6 seconds to make up on last races winner.
Now I just know that the more money I pour into the car will make me a better driver and I will WIN.
LOL LOL LOL. Yea right!!!!!!!!

Yours sincerely,
Unicorn
