EcuTek license?

So I recently received instructions how to flash my car.. Read all the docs, queried the ecu, applied updated, ensured drivers are installed, etc.

But "Select license in the license folder"?

What license? What folder? I have the bin file and docs, but no license in the ecutek box or email or anywhere on my laptop. I don't get it.

I emailed my tuner, but was just curious if others had the same problem.

Go to one of the top bar menu items (cant remember which one now) and selec apply license update. that prompt is supposed to get you to the folder where the license is downloaded from ECUtek server. You should see two licenses, one that ends in 0 for your tuner and one that ends in 1. Select the one that ends in one.

When your tuner mailed you your EcuTek dongle, he should have contacted EcuTek to apply a license update to your dongle ID. Then you have to connect to the EcuTek servers and download that license update and apply it to your dongle. Then when you look at your dongle's information it should say remaining flashes 1. Then when you successfully flash the car the software will consume that flash.

To apply the license, you basically just go to the options, "apply license update," then find the license file and open it. You should be automatically be sent to the folder that has the file.

If you don't see one, then you need to run the ecutek app downloader with the dongle plugged in. We have some pretty detailed info here.

Thanks all, this is good info. I made sure everything is up to date, downloading multiple times. When I go to apply the license update, it does not bring me to a license folder.. there is no file there. I believe it just send me to C:\. Anyway, I tried to search my entire drive for *.upd and it doesn't exist. WHERE is this magical folder supposed to be?

Maybe my tuner forgot to update the servers.. or got the wrong information? They say the license folder appears when you click apply feature button.. well, not for me.

I've queried the ECU so I know i have the drivers and dongle key working.

Thanks much!
Mike

When I got mine from Visconti, he had not put a license on my dongle ID yet, so I had to contact him, then download the file, and then apply the license update.

Mike, hopefully your tuner purchased the license already. It is a possibility that they didn't though, that would explain why it wouldn't be there even if you did an update. The magical folder is in C: Ecutek - License updates - then whatever your dongle code is should be something like XX XX XX

Hope that helps!

My tuner got it sorted out. I just flashed it a few minutes ago.. just have to drive it around a bit to get it re-acquainted.

Thanks for everyone's help. I won't post any logs or reviews until it's fully dialed in, but maybe next week. I also want to learn more about the main parameters - AFR, Advance Timing, etc.

Is it possible to log any car that does not have a tune installed? Or can you only log your own car?

poolboy54 11-10-2016 07:37 PM

Do you have to have the license to tune your car with ecutek?

ecutek cable will log parameters and reset cel codes on any car. you need to open a rom of same calid as is in car so it knows what parameters to log out of ecu. No licience in ecu is required, the ecu licience is only required for flashing.

you will need the dongle key plugged into your computer though as well as obd cable, the dongle is the "licience" for the ecutek software.

see the pretty colored links below , Click on the Ecu Logging one for some basic info.

you will need to open a stock rom in ecutek with same calid as the one flashed in you car to log or just open the one the tuner sent you , it will be locked but will activate the logging.
