FT86Club Vendors.. I'm sure many of you have been following the forums closely for quite some time. I have noticed a significant number of owners who have been inquiring (or commenting) about the quality and strength of the Aisin 6MT on these cars. On one hand, we are talking about guys who are heavily modified and wanting strength/reliability. On the other hand, we have those who are not heavily modified but still experiencing issues with reliability. I can't speak for everyone else, but what options (if any) can be had for building out a stronger and more reliable OEM unit? If not, what other options are feasible and reasonable?

I don't want this to be a discussion about warranty. Some of us have thrown the warranty out the window.

Somewhat related (other options), some on page 1, mostly page 2 - You've probably seen it so this can be for others checking the thread.

Ok, so the Tremec TKO. Can we have a discussion on it? What would it take to swap this in? Cost? Custom bellhousing? Compatibility with stock driveshaft, shifter mechanism, reverse lockout, etc? Modifications to interior (if any)? Is there a vendor willing to build kits to order?

I'm finding it hard to believe that little if anything on this subject is to be had from this forum.

I think that's because no one has modified their car to the extent of needing a full-tilt-boogie race transmission.

The only one's I've seen are the drift cars with sequential boxes. You might inquire in the racing/track/AX forum here.

Has anyone considered cryogenic treatment? It sounds like an excellent way to strengthen the transmission for a relatively low cost without adding after market internals

That, and adding a pump and cooler will greatly help the transmission handle constant high loads, like seen on the track.

It won't help with drag racing or huge power duno runs, but keeping the heat down helps keep things together.

Have there been many people breaking the g/box? I have only heard of one and it was on a highly modded car (500 - 600RWHP) and it broke when the car landed after being airborn.

Cryo treating the gears are your best bet. I know the local high powered STi's do it because of their shit gearboxes. Pretty much the cheapest route you are gonna get. You can do engine internals as well if you ever decide to go that route. Makes things pretty stout.

I've considered cryo on this car and I have had a few parts on my old WS6 done, but I'm really interested to hear what the aftermarket has in store for an upgraded synchromesh transmission. Sequential transmission is pointless on the street. I'm not making anywhere near enough torque to break the stock transmission, but it would be nice to know that there are options for when I do. I'm planning another power upgrade in spring and I want to overbuild. If no vendors have this on their plate, I'm going to be looking at something custom locally.

I've heard that Don at Accelerated did, but haven't spoken to him to discuss details.

Are most of the guys in the tuner challenge just using the stock box then, eh?

IIRC he bent a shift fork or something, not even a stripped/shattered gear.

Thought the title of his last post was, along the lines of how to shred 3rd gear.

Stock AISSIN Transmission Power Capacity
How much do you think a stock trans will hold before you shear third gear?

Thats what it was...and then he left the forums never to be heard of again...
