OEM mud guards

Anyone with OEM mud guards? How do you like them? Was the rear hard to install without removing the wheels?

I just got some today...

Where did you get them? I'm thinking of getting myself some

boxer 2.5 09-30-2013 02:58 AM

I was wondering the same things. Also: is weather tape needed, does it form to the curves of the panels, and how is the quality?

humfrz 09-30-2013 03:08 AM

Well, I installed the OEM mud guards on my white FR-S and I think they look just fine .... they sort of "blend in" with the black wheel well panels.

They are good quality .... for mud guards .... and they fit nicely.

The front wheels DO NOT need to be removed for installation, just turn them.

I tried all my best "around the corner" tools to get that inner fastener hole drilled/punched in for the rear guards without removing the wheels .... I finally gave up and removed the rear wheels.

I think they work pretty well for helping keep the sides of the car claener.

I've got them too, one of the first mods when I got mine a month or so ago. I have a white 86 and they look okay on them, blend in like they are standard. They function as I thought they would. Though they are the only thing I've scrapped on a gutter so far.

Easy to install, had left over bits. I brought them from a local person who had an aero kit and couldn't use them. But can get them from eBay or even my local Toyota dealer sell them.

Top quality or standard OEM quality. Fit very snuggle to the car and after a month of use no movement.

I managed installing the rears with tires on, just turned the drill bit by hand, if the proper size won't bite in, start with a smaller one. Good fitment, love the look. Good luck.

You can also heat a drill bit with a torch and just push it through the plastic. Makes a clean hole and no need to remove the wheels. Just don't let anything hot contact the tire.

Are we talking about the ones they come with? Are these not coming with some or what's going on??

Mikem53 09-30-2013 09:22 AM

I installed a set. I did remove the rear tires for easier access, just turned the front wheels was enough.. They look good and blend in well with the raven look.

Apparently they are standard equipment in Canada, not so in the lower 48....

speedy racer 09-30-2013 09:58 AM

I installed them all without using the inner plug, been on a year Without issues.

USMC 09-30-2013 10:14 AM

I also installed them and they look great. I removed the rears to make it more easy to install.

frs10 09-30-2013 11:04 AM

OEM mud guards are great, great quality and great fit.

do urself a favor... remove ur back tires and install all the screws... they feel flimsy without the last nut installed.

check the DIY section for the mud guard install

Ahh learned something new today! Probably cause of our shit weather and for peeps driving in winter I suppose its a needed item rather then if you want item..

Mad1723 09-30-2013 01:02 PM

Installed on mine when you buy the car (Quebec). You almost forget they are there since they don't clash with the car style.

Could you have TRD side skirt and mudguard in the same time?

Jertronic 09-30-2013 07:36 PM

What price have people been given when ordering through dealership? Is there a better or less expensive source for OEM mud flaps. Going to get me a set..... Winter is coming

Books 10-01-2013 04:54 PM

I got mine last year off of Amazon. Installed them myself and didn't drill the hole for the rear.

They worked great over winter as you can see here:

Books posts a pic that is a sign of things to come in short time in New England. I type this on the eve of potential record breaking heat for the date.

Books- Mind if I ask about your winter set up? Snows? Was this your DD last winter?

I am in planning stages of my winter driving strategy. Buy steel rims and snows, or drive my dad's Tundra for most of the winter as he goes south for 4 months.

fitcious 10-02-2013 02:16 AM

Installed!

Yep, it's my DD. Last winter I had Blizzaks on my stock rims (hard to see, but that's what's in the pic) and was able to handle 2-4 inches of snow easily. Safe driving, keep all the nannies on, and lots of car washes. Most of all, very fun!

(also have weathertech floor and trunk mats)

And here's a bonus pic after Hurricane Nemo (There's an FR-S in there somewhere, I swear)

That is encouraging as I plan to DD this car 12/12 months.

I think will get me some black steelies with blizzaks most likely.

Weahtertech mats are a great idea.

For the FRS they are standard and not on the BRZ.

Also, these parts are not yet available from Subaru dealers you need to order the from your friendly Scion dealer, which in Canada will be at your nearest Toyota dealer.

I like mine. If you drive in snow you should fit a set. For SoCal I'd not bother unless I used the car for ski trips.

Thank you @shellslinger
Does this require drilling??? i saw on the DIY procedure it does, but i cant let myself do that again after drilling the plastic for my rear view camera

Yes and no. If you want it nice and secured I would drill. However, the only rear ones require drilling. The front does not require it. What I did to my rear was get 3M Automotive double sided sticky tape and used mounting hardware. Haven't had any issues with the rears since I've had them like that for the past 2 years.

Since they come as stock on the Canadian cars I have no idea how it is secured but if you drive in snow you want too make sure they are a solid as possible. Mine are already worn out part way up and I will probably need to the replace them next year. They have taken such a beating that I can't even imagine what the sides of my car would look like with out them.

@mixedjuice, plus one! I live in California so my conditions are not as severe as yours.
