Best way of removing Bugs without damaging paint?
 

Hey guys I just received my BRZ from Clint, I got it shipped from CO to Texas.

My car was loaded on the truck backwards, therefore the entire flat surfaces on the back are covered (literally covered) by bugs. I took 2 days to get here, so some of those are very much dried up already.

Any ideas on how to remove bugs without damaging the paint? I've researched several products, but then I always end up reading some bad reviews. I'm getting scared of using any of them.

My car is black, which complicates things too, last thing I want is a rear bumped full of swirls.

Any info would be appreciated

WD40. Spray it on, let it soak in for a bit and then wipe/srub away. It doesn't damage your paint.

Waterless wash sprayed on will loosen the guts and they also make a sponge that has a soft nylon mesh on it that is made to help remove bugs and it won't scratch the paint if used gently. Get them off the black ASAP because they will mar the finish and that is not fixable. Griot's Garage sells a product that you can spray on your car before you go on a long cruise that helps prevent them from sticking like glue and washes off.

Thanks for the answers, giving it a try this afternoon with WD40. And thanks white64goat for the advice, yeah I just read somewhere else how important is to remove those little fuckers ASP from dark paint colors.

Honestly, wiping away at bugs isn't a good idea, period. So it be best to go with a bug sponge, they help pick up bugs a lot better then a microfiber cloth of wash mit would.

Dryer sheets on car paint? Hmm, i find dryer sheets to be quite rough, i'd have to ask a few detailers their views on that. Seems wrong, also i wonder if the chemicals in the dryer sheets would actually damage the paint.

Most bug/tar removing products are safe for paint, assuming its a car related product. There's a few on detailers domain i'd recommend, they all get the job done. But they do remove your wax.

Any pro detailers want to insert your opinion on dryer sheets?

I would not use dryer sheets.

you need to hydrate the carcus then they will pop off. wash that area first with a stream of water, rinse the whole car, and soap up, wash but don't do that section until after you rinse the whole car, then soap up that section of bugs and wash as norm. Most of the bugs should pop off during the first rinse section before you re soap again.

A good coat of sealant will help this whole thing out.

I've always used the turtle wax bug remover. I've never had any issues with it.

Citrus degreaser. Recommended to me by a detailer for cleaning exhaust residue off the rear bumper. I used to carry bug/tar remover, but it ran out, so i tried the citrus (purple power i think) on the front too... I wont be buying bug spray anymore. 1 bottle and it works on bugs, exhaust, and brake dust.

You can rinse the car with a pressure washer first then use a foam gun to soap up the car. Let the foam do it's work for a 1min (Don't wait too long that the soap will dry up) then rinse. That should loosen up the huge bugs. Then a normal 2 bucket wash would do the trick.
