how to remove dried polyurethane adhesive

Just stuck on a boot lip with polyurethane glue. but noticed that theres a small amount of glue running off the edges this morning. its pretty much cured by now. whats the best way to remove that stuff, without taking the botlip off. tried acetone and isoprop alcohol..dsnt realli do anything.
is sanding it down and re-polishing the car paint the best way?

heat gun / hair dryer work pretty well on remove the adhesive glue. Put on some GooGone will save some work as well at the finish.
