Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric All-season tire - comments?
 

Hi Folks,

I haven't taken my FR-S through a winter yet and I'm thinking of putting on some all-season tires.

I live near Seattle, WA and it doesn't get all that cold in these parts. We do get a few light snowfalls during the winter, but mostly the roads are just cold and wet.

I've been looking at the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric All-season tires.

Do you have first hand knowledge about how these tires perform on a FR-S/BRZ .. ??

If so, would you please share.

I have been using 235/40R18 for 26,000 mi. Steering feel is quite accurate better than OE tire (more linear and narrower center feel). Dry grip is also better, but it is not sticky as ultra high performance tire like Advan ad08R. Wet grip is outstanding espcially hydroplanning. I do not have chance to try it on snow since I live in Asia.

Ride comfort is almost same level as OE tire (new conditoni). I feel slightly sharp shock on concrete joint road and patch road. NVH is same level as OE tire. After 25,000 mi, I feel ride comfort and NVH level dropped significantly especially harsh feel and tire pattern noise. To me, it is still acceptable level.
Tread worn out is very good. It is still remain more than half even my driving style is quit agressive (hard connering and rear tire spin).

Overall, I think it is one of good choices for daily driving. Again, this is not extremely high grip tire.

I'm currently considering for these in Maryland winter. The surveys on tirerack seems pretty good for wet and dry traction. Their review is also very good. Just waiting for others' opinions...

I had the 2007 version of these tires on my miata. Wet weather traction was ok once the tires got warmed up. Most common issue with the F1 asyms is that they flat spot very easily. Just parking over night they will flat spot, but will round out after 10 mins of driving. Unfortunately I have no experience with these in snow.

Well, since my first post, I'm considering the Goodyear Eagle Sport A/S tire. They are a bit less expensive and the F1 tire may be over kill for my conservative driving.

I remember, back in the day, after picking a size, all one had to do was choose whitewall or blackwall, new or re-cap, snow or regular tread ..... :iono:

If you are looking for a tire that's good in the snow I would definitely avoid the F1 Asymetric 2's. I had them on my last car (Evo X GSR) and while the stuck very well for an all-season on both dry and wet pavement, they sucked in the snow. Sure you could get out, but forget about stopping or turning. They had such little snow traction that I ended up driving my 4x2 Ranger when the roads got slippery last winter, and I didn't even have particularly good tires on that.

The only UHP all-season that I have seen work well in the snow has been the Continental DWS's. Mounted on an RX-8 I could got up and down some of the steep/twisty roads around me fairly well. My buddy has them on his Evo 8 as well and he loves them in the snow, not so much on during autocross events though. ;)

Well, I decided on the Goodyear Eagle Sport A/S tires and had them put on today. The traction and bite on dry roads is very good (it hasn't rained or snowed yet). They are responsive, the ride is good and they are quiet.
