Door Chime Question
 

Turn off car>Open Door = No Chiming
Open door>Turn off car = Endless Chiming.

It's driving me crazy as I naturally open the door and then turn off the engine. Only when the engine turns off does it start the chiming, which is really annoying as I sit in the car getting my stuff together.

I looked up things the Dealership can do about the Chiming, but I didn't see any settings for this.

Just to clarity, opening the door while the car is still ON does not trigger the Chime. Having the door OPEN and then turning the car OFF causes the endless chime. It would make more sense if the chime came from having an open door while the engine was running. Having a chime for an open door when you turn OFF the engine seems pointless.

If you want to disable it completely, the buzzer is located inside the gauge cluster. It's soldered onto the board so it'll be some work. Currently doing this right now.

Every car you buy in your life time is going to have some little peculiarity that is unique to that car. You might consider it cost effective to work on changing your habits or you'll be going thru the same type of frustrations with every car you own.

There's a reason for it and it drives me crazy as well. There has to b e a meaning behind the ding, ding, ding $#@#$@$@#

I think you can change the behavior with techstream.
The dealer can make those kind of settings changes for free

It also has a solid chime if either the parking lights or lo/hi beams are on with the car off and door open. It is to remind you to get your keys and turn the lights off.

Maybe it chimes because you still have your key in the ignition (if that's the case) but won't stop once you take it out? Did you try closing the door and reopenning it when that happens?

I have a Limited, so the keys stay in my pocket. Maybe it's the same idea though. Maybe it chimes to tell me my keys are still in the car...but if that was the case then why if I close and reopen the door does it not trigger the chime? The key is in the car with the door open, but no chime. It's only right after you turn off the car. I'll just run it by the dealership and see what they can do.

It appears that it's designed to do this. See page 28 of the manual. My Limited does this as well. I'm not sure why it's necessary. Perhaps a dealer could disable the feature?

The only one that shows only the Interior Alarm sounding continuously is this one:
Interior alarm sounds continuously -
"The push-button ignition switch was turned to “ACC” mode while the driver’s door was open (or the driver’s door was opened while the push- button ignition switch was in “ACC” mode). Turn the push-button ignition switch off and close the driver’s door."

So the manual says:
Door Open>Turn On ACC>Chime
and
While in Car turn on ACC>Open Door, Chime.

The manual does not list:
Open Door>Turn off Car>Continuous Chime
vs.
Turn off Car>Open Door>No Chime

Again, I would completely understand if the car Chimed when the door was opened while the car was one still, but why is it that turning the car OFF triggers the chime instead of opening the door? And it's funny how simply closing and reopening the door stops the chime, even though nothing has changed and the car is still off with the door open. Seems like a pointless chime to me and unfortunately is bugging the crap out of me every time I go somewhere.
I'm going to the dealership on Monday to have my Crickets looked at and for my 2nd oil change. I'll ask them while I'm there...


BTW: I'm driving a MT, not Auto. When I turn the car off I keep it in Neutral. Maybe I'll try leaving it in gear when I turn it off and see if that matters.

Easy way I found for getting rid of the chime when I'm sitting with the door open is to push the little black button in the door seem that makes it think you closed the door. It's right near the door latch. If you press it in and let go the chime goes away. Problem solved :)

Chirping is louder than ever but Service guy is saying it has been confirmed as a normal sound. His reasoning? "I have a buddy with a Ford Diesle truck and they make the same noise. It's just because of the pressure with the fuel pump. Subaru doesn't have any more plans to address that chirping."

As for the chiming, the techs can't explain why the car is beeping continuously. He basically said,"Why do you open your door first?" Lol! I said, "That's not the point. I want to know what this chiming is telling me. What's the purpose?" Again he couldn't come up with an explanation so he's hooking up his computer now to see if he's able to disable that chiming.

As for the fuel pump, what can I say as proof that this isn't a "normal" sound?
